What is your opinion on custom cars with re-constructed titles? We change frames bodies and make our cars from many vehicles during a build. Many states force you to get a "re-constructed" brand on the title when building such a car. Does it hurt value in your opinion for vehicles such as these? For an Original restoration I would think it would but what about customs or street rods. I see plenty of vehicles at shoes with state issued VIN numbers on them.

I think the value of vehicles in the categories you use as examples would not necessarily affected by such title designations. It's different with a late model vehicle that is being to sold to Mom & Pop for family transport in the commercial market.

What I think would help a great deal, and is often done, is to have a photo album of the build to document the parts, methods, workmanship, etc. to offer some assurance to a potential purchaser of what they are buying into...even if a second or third owner.

I also agree with your thoughts about 'restorations', but there again, it depends on what it is, how rare they are, etc. Many restorations began with less than a whole car and various parts, bits and pieces were found wherever and/or made. A complete, original vehicle that is properly restored is probably at the top of the value scale..........but a well done 'Bitsa' is not far behind.

    Just my opinions.........others may vary.

  3. One possible issue for most 'enthusiasts' (as long as the car isn't represented as something it's not) may be that the title may come under more scrutiny if sold outside the titling state. Not all states accept all other states 'versions' of titles if it's not a 'clear' or OEM title. Another possible issue can be the year designation chosen may subject the vehicle to emission testing in some places. A 'reconstructed' title is probably fine, but I'd check my state laws first...

When I bought my 50 Styleline, the back doors were welded up and it was titled as a 2 door hard top Fleetline. The only thing that matched were the VIN numbers.
