Well, I have plenty of cold ones and a friend coming by tonight to help build the 56 a console. Lord only knows how it will turn out, but looking forward to it. I had several things I just could not decide where to put them such as a/c vents, courtesy lights, front speakers, etc... So a console made a good choice to house them all.

My plan is 3/4" mdf all routed edges to be perty and round. Why, well it seems to be a popular thing for consoles, and it will be easy to route and form, but yes will be a bit heavy. I have bucket seats, swivel seats from a monte carlo.

I ordered 2 stainless steel casino table cup holders from the bay to mount for drink holders. I will install a speaker on each side (under dash). I plan to install 2 a/c vents up front and 2 a/c vents in the back of it for air in the rear to. I have a 5 spd so the wife will sew me up a shifter boot and that will all be mounted in the console. I also plan to install a couple of fancy courtesy lights, one on each side in the front and one on each side in the back. I will probably tie those in to door switches so they come on when the door is opened.

Once its all done, I am going to try my hand at vinyl over it all and hope for the best.

if anyone else has "been there dun that", please share what/how/why, would love to see it.

Here is my crewd drawing showing where things will go.

Very cool! If you could take pics during the process, I'm sure a lot of us would really appreciate them. Looking forward to this one.

Sweet consoles... I built one for my '37Ford. The most important one item I did was to use weatherpack multi wire connectors to be able to remove the consle if needed and just simply un-clip each connector for removal. I seperated each of the 'systems' into radio/speakers, guages, doors/windows, lights, and anything else you have in there. Each weatherpack connector is different so no system can be plugged into it by mistake. This works great for trouble shooting and setting up your wiring. You can pre-wire your console and simply connect it when installed.

Good thinking genos....I will do something like that also.

Well, here is an update to the console...we working on this thing from 8pm till 5am. Never thought it would take this long...Cuttin the wood was easy, most of that was figuring out the template. Anyway here is some pics from the progress. I am waiting until I get cup holders and lights etc..on hand before going forward to make sure everything will fit where I need it.

Now we still have to sand and route all the edges but we have our basic shape now.
