Ok dash in 38 olds toast. I picked up a dash from a 38 cheby. Measurements from side to side on the olds is 45" measurements on the cheby is 47". I have my mind set on makin the new cheby dash fit. I was thinkin cute 2" out of the center and welding the 2 halfs off the chevy back. I plan one using the same gauges which came with the chevy dash. My question is does cuttin 2" out of the center n bindin them back sound like a good idea? Or would you go a different route?

    Lonestar38,

I don't know if this helps, but there was a tech posting last week that showed how to take a 55 chevy dash, cut/weld it and put it in a 32 ford. There might be some info you could use on your project.

Depends on the shape and design.
It might be easier to just take an inch off each end.

If there is any chrome that runs from side to side,it would have to be modified as well.

I though about the inch off each side uncle ian but the glove box is right there. Plan on puttin stereo behind glovebox. When I picked up the dash i figured both diamaters would be the same since both bodies where by fisher. But both are same shape n design but the chevy dash is 2" longer. I was figuring cut the center from were the beak was at the top of the dash n after reconnectin makin a beak to fit inside the body.

You might think about where that would put your steering column mount on the bottom of the dash. You may have to cut the mount pad out and move it over a bit to line up with your Olds column again.
Will the cowl vent handle clear the bottom of the chevy dash? Would the chevy dash fit better by cutting an inch out of each side, thereby maintianing your screw holes at the top of the dash [if the olds and chevy have mounting screws in the same places] go for it!

Cowl vent handle might not clear but I could always make it. Screw holes will probably be off but I can just drill new ones. Minds set goin for it. I'll try postin pics later usin a buddies dash. But considerin I never done this it may be a while before pics. I"ll have to fill in were the chevy eblem in the center off the dash used to be after cuttin, any suggestions?
