I wonder if any of you old guys ever saw a car customized with "the very latest automotive sensation - straight from the nation's custom car capital". Because Newhouse was located in Los Angeles, I'm assuming they were selling these to people living anywhere east of LA so they could get a head start on the latest trend. I never heard of these until I spotted this ad on the Internet .....
After about a year or two they probably changed there slogan from Boinggg to Doh! No, seriously though, that was a great idea thats been used through the years with the fake wood grain etc. and is still used today with the vinyl wraps etc, some guy on here recently wrapped his entire 56 chevy wagon with it and it looks like a actual paint job in the pics.
Here is the mentioned '56 Wagon. I do this kind of work for a living. This is our shop vehicle. We leave it at the dealerships when we pick up cars for work. Not worried about parking lot damage with a wrap. if it get damaged/door dinged. We replace that part with new piece.
I saw an old old MAD book that had a story about automotive fashion in the 50s, and they showed some plaid cars....now I know where they got the idea!
It has no depth when you see it in person. Ive seen several wrapped cars with flame graffix and although the artwork is done well,,,, it just looks "off". The first one I ever saw, I stared at it for quite a bit trying to figure out what he did wrong with his paint to get it to lay that way.
