I want to put ‘53-‘54 Buick headlights on my ‘50 Chevy sedan, but I don’t have any idea how to do it. Does anyone know of a place online or a publication that might help?
You may want to check for a little books article on it. If you can grind metal and weld well.. you will figure it out. But it not for the faint of heart or novice. That is why there are some custom mods that easier to do without cutting and welding. If you have someone do the job make sure you have everything that will be done in writing and how much the cost would be. This and easy to lock up a car into body shop hell and never to be heard from again, nor your money. I would start by locating a set of front fenders with with all the components attached.
I've got to agree with Abe Lugo, first step is to hunt down the instructions. I've seen them a few times over the years but don't know what magazine or how to book they were in now.
1953 headlight bezels - Photo credit: Ed Smoot I did the prep work of remounting the headlight buckets behind the fender, with a spacer made from a Target nylon cutting board (well do***ented in the the build thread that got deleted). At 75 years old, it became obvious that I did not have enough good years left to acquire the needed fabrication skills. I brought the this car to Smooth Engineering in Phoenix, AZ. This car all the extra holes welded, some dents removed, a couple of rusted/manged pans got remade, custom grill frenched headlights and taillights, and a fresh coat of paint. Since I live on a dirt road, I requested a "Bondo budget" level of build. Ed is capable of "Show Car" work, but, cheerfully worked to my budget <like all builds, we both had some great ideas for extra "stuff" and went way deeper than just a couple of fender skirts>. When I got the car back, I did all the installation and wiring of the lighting and nerf bars. Also had to fabricate a license plate ***embly with plate lights and backup camera.
TrailerTrashToo, as a Volvo and Traditional fan, always wanted to build a 544 into a Custom. Love to see yours when done [emoji736] Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It is done - well at least the custom part - still working on the additional heat load caused by the addition of air conditioning. <sigh>. This picture shows the 1953 headlight bezels. This May, in front of the local Harbor Freight - No trailer queens here, the intent is to drive it to Lead Ain't Dead in Dewey, OK. Taking a "CIVID break" this year, but, did send in my registration fee to "keep the flame alive".
Don't know - the 53 headlight doors are stainless ***emblies. I had to do some clearance work on the inner structure (the part next to the headlight) with a cutoff wheel.
