    BUT....they wont ship to Cali.

I shipped them to my dad in AZ. Told him he will recieve a package and to send it to me. No questions from him. Good Dad.

  5. problem is i think they're made of aluminum and the '56 plates are steel, dmv checks the plate material (at least they should). if your replacing one currently registered your ok, but if your going for a new registration good luck. just registered my panel today (yom), another dmv person had to walk they guy through it.....so now i know how :). and i asked the inmates still make the plates.

It is illegal which is why they won't ship to California.

They are expensive too...but what are you going to do. Not good to get caught if you do.

i plan on having just one made to match the existing plates for my 55 chevy truck . i'll probally keep the real ones under the seat and put the tags on the fake rear one (not running a front plate) as long as the plate looks as legit as people are saying and the numbers jive with my reg. i doubt i'll have a problem . im going to have it shipped to my wifes family in wis. and pick it up this summer when we visit
thanks for the help guys !

You are asking for trouble......DO NOT put a legal tag on a fake plate! Remember the Fram oil filter commercial?....Pay me now or pay me later! Spend the money to restore your current plates. Messing with DMV will bite you square in the ***!

    +1!!

Why not buy a pair of REAL plates??
So you spend the bucks to have some FAKE plates made and you put them on "just for shows".
What if you forget they're on the car?

This is one of my "hot ****on" issues.
The YOM program has specific guidelines for a reason.
When you (do you think your the only one trying this?) use NON original plates, the DMV can and will make it harder to register real YOM plates.
I paid $200(I've seen them go for less) for the ones I have on my car.
That's a helluva lot cheaper than having FAKE ones made and the fines you'll end up paying if Johnny Law decides to "run" your plates.
And,Stop painting new plates to look like old ones!

  14. it sounds like he has real plates but maybe doesn't want anything to happen to them or they need to be restored. on mine i bought the tamper resistant screws and tool from mcmaster.....if anyone wants to steal my plate they'll have to work for it. by the way i just went to the dmv today and registered my '54 ford panel with yom plates. they went through so far, they're commercial and mine have a BE instead of a COM.

    61TBird....

    1. because im not going too nor can i really afford to pay the $300+ that DMV clear 51's are gonna cost ( my 55 would have to have 51's in the YOM program)

    2. its not going to be "just for shows" im going to run this plate all the time so no worries abot forgetting them

    3. sorry about your............um , hot ****on issues ( id see a doctor)

    4. i could give a **** less about YOM guidelines or the DMV in general

    5. no i dont think im the only one doing this and once again i could really care less

    6. i plan on buying one $80 plate for the back of my truck that matches the #'s and letters on my current white plates and im willing to bet that 99% of cops who see it or even run it will not even notice as long as it matches my current dmv reg.

    7. ive never painted a license plate ( unless you count over-spray)

    8. thanks for your highly valued opinion but if you read the orig. post i was just asking for a ****ing website

    2.Hope you don't get caught...

    3.No need,I'm healthy.

4.Follow your own advice for #3

5.Then when the DMV wants my YOM plates back due to m***ive fraud,I know who to blame first...

6.Good luck when you run into the 1%.
I do have a buddy that painted his Blue/Yellow plates Black/Yellow.
He wasn't too happy after Court and his fine.

    7.O/T. Stick to the point.

8.Once again, they DO NOT ship to CA. Having them "diverted" to another state can be considered Mail fraud. Have fun with that one.

does this make sense ... get personal plates that match the plates you want to use >now everything looks right&is on paper>use your old plates now with some piece of mind ?

    Not worth the risk.

Just wait for a good deal to come along. I got my DMV clear '51 plate in pretty good shape for $40 off ebay

Or you could just buy this one from me. Needs some restoration, and I haven't checked for a while to make sure it's still clear

well **** im doing it, im mailing to family in washington, then wait and have them sent here..they'll be my all the time plates.....cant wait, paypal anyone????..lol

as far as the dmv....hmmm 300+fee's. vs. 80+shiping and handling twice= smart idea

in my opinion you only get caught if you drive like a f#@ing idiot on a starbucks buzz.....

  21. not that you WILL have an issue, but if your running commercial plates (the new ones) which is a combo of numbers and letters...the '51 commercial plate has a "com" vertical in front of the numbers. by the way you still need 2 plates to register (unless it's '45 or '46). but i did notice a guy on the bay selling "repo" steel ones................

****** , as far as i can tell CA DMV requires a matched pair (I.E."2" ) of plates to get in on the YOM program

MEMPHIS RAT , glad to see your doing the same math i am

    61TBird .........
    1. are they clear? doubt it or they would be using that as a selling point , plus still 6 days to go ...

    2. i doubt i will , not really worried about

    3. good to know

    4. no "hot ****on issues" here buddy

    5. i hope the DMV only wants YOUR yom plates back

    6. i have pretty good luck when it comes to coming into contact with law enforcement , i try to stick to the old rule "dont be a douche bag and you wont get h***led by the cops" sounds like your buddy wasnt so lucky.....or whatever

    7. O/T ? stick to the point? i quote....."and, stop painting new plates to look like old ones!"

    8. as i said no shipping to ca not a prob. and i highly doubt im gonna get nailed for MAIL FRAUD ! come on , you can do better than that !

    9. i noticed you failed to respond to the fact that the orig. post was asking for A ****ING WEBSITE THAT SELLS CUSTOM PLATES ! not your lame opinions on the YOM program and FAKE plates .........but thanks for your input , and remember , opinions are like ***holes.....everybodys but your own smells like ****

If the repro plates look like the real thing and if the number matches the registration how are the police or DMV going to know if they are repro or not and why would they care since they got thier money when they were registered and thats all they seem to care about

It's precisely your number four point that will get the YOM program tossed out eventually!!! People saying "eff-you" to the rules, which are VERY simple, will end up making YOM registrations illegal! You can't afford the $300 to do things right, yet you can afford the $100 to break the law. Hmmmm. Not the brightest justification for your actions, don'cha think??? Save for the additional $200 and do it right. Not a real tough decision here.

My legal Maryland plates are mounted on "used car lot" temporary magnets. I simply pop them on the back driving to the shows and then put them in the trunk at the show. I get the look that I want and I'm still legal. It works for me.

since im not involved in the YOM program it really doesnt effect me now does it? im not trying to sound like a **** , just speaking honestly, and since you dont live in CA it really doesnt effect you either . i would rather spend my money somewhere else outher then the DMV. im going to pay my regular tags every year and run the same plate # the dmv has given me ,just on a different color plate ( by the way ive decided to go with the 63' style , it looks better with 7 spaces than the 56's) tough decision? not at all , ive decided to spend 80 bucks one time then just pay my already outrageous DMV fees every year , not only do i save money on the plates but also the extra fees and i dont have to jump through any hoops for the ***holes at the DMV .

Yea, then the coppers don't think you are being a total jerk. Then the "I forgot to take them off after the car show" line should work fine.
