Hey Madwagon I figured you'd chime in on this thread eventually, thought I'd wait until you did to remind you it's high time for an update. How about it?

I think that the unifying theme in the ones I do like is that the paint job doesn't compete with or attempt to redefine the natural lines of the car.

Five pages into this thread and no one has posted a picture of Lee Pratt's '55 Nomad?

That's my personal favorite, and I'd post it myself but I don't have a scanner.

Anyone wanna step up here and post a picture of it? I know somebody has it.

    (Special bonus--it had a four-track tape player.)

Was built that way in late 60's, so it isn't...

I wouldn't to it by myself. I bought it that way and I like it.

Thanks. It will need a little change on the back of the roof. Sth. more floating with the pillar. It looks a little too handbuilt that way I think. It needs a rounding. The edge above the window is too far back, and too thick.
I will try to photoshop this one day...to see how it looks the other way.

Another idea is to build or buy (probably too rare to get) a Nomad roof, that I can put on, and off with screws. for the windows I could use plastik glass. mmmmhh. good idea....

It took a while to get here but I read it all,and it's all been said! I agree about '40s, Caddys, and Nomads. There are a few more in the group. Nomads, even GM couldn't sustain the quality of design. As for the customs the problem is taste, some people don't have any! That's why the these threads go>>>>>>>>>>>
    1. Wheels/tires
    2. Stance
    3. If that doesn't do it proceed with caution!

  15. the front sheet metal is also molded to the body...
accuride airbag system...tanks hidden in quarters
    custom radiator support
I may be wrong, but I believe he had to make the center bow on the tailgate(can't remember for sure)
    shaved emblems
    stepped a-arms also, I think

  16. Keep it simple but some guys just can't...it's like when you see some hot actress or pop singer is gonna be on Letterman or some other show and ya tune in and find out she's inflated her lips and screwed up her hair...was perfectly fine but had to mess with natural beauty

The horrendous Caprice Nomad (Majestic Nomad on the eBay link above) was designed by Thom Taylor, about ten years or so ago, and was called the Alternomad Caprice. Revell made a model kit of the car released in '98, and yes, it is one ugly vehicle.

I kinda like the Nomad/El Camino look. I've seen some Nomads and Safaris made into pickups over the years (more common before the rear glass was reproduced; you have no curved glass and no place to get it, so what do you do?) and they've all looked pretty well done. I think GM could have come out with the El Camino a few years earlier, using the Nomad as the basis.

ok, preface…I dig both and have stared a lot. Maybe it’s choices for the owner. I think arkie’s says maybe I can take you? even though my kids are in back and I look damn fine while doing so. And Cole’s (or owner) says I am comfortably cruising and I look damn fine also.

Color choices and where placed? arkie has the dark color running into the roofline where as Cole has the lighter color running up there. Breaking the trim line it still works and may be the reason here.

The headlight treatment? Works for both styles.

The subtleness of Cole’s is what works and is blowing me away with the simplicity. Lack of hood ornament, rearview mirrors, emblems. The keyhole is huge in leading the eye (note to self). And what is up with the trim spear? is it just the photo’s? the color combination between the two? Cole’s looks worked or thinner. Moved higher up the fender? The angle of the photo’s?

whats 'nomad' about this? its dog shit i wouldnt ever drive it!

nomads are a work of art!!!
2 kinds of nomad guys: you got the serious nomad owners that did their time & homework & know, love & respect the cars.

then you have the guys that like to say N O M A D i got some extra money when my inlaws died & now own a nomad & i get alot of attention anywhere i go! . (an idiot!!!) go get a cosworth vega or something that'll draw attention!

THATS IT!!!! NO MOLESTING NOMADS! THIS IS THE DUMBEST POST IVE EVER SEEN!!!!!!! 99.9% of anyone who finds a 'barn find' wouldnt take a cut off wheel or sawzall & start cutting one up! (gonna make it look better?!)
ive had it im not reading this post again!!! its makin me sick!:D

A favourite of mine, the gaurd flowing into the sill has to be the best mod, once you know its there you always look...flowing nicely with the round corners etc...really good idea.

I have to agree with the sentiment of Nomads having great style from the factory. Like a '63-'65 Riviera, it's extremely difficult to improve on the styling, and anything that's just not "right" tends to carry the car directly into "ugly town".... and that ugliness just seems exaggerated.

I had penned up a couple of "phantom" Nomads about a year ago for Rod and Custom, and created a couple of Olds versions... and it was tough to keep everything looking good, without messing up a good design... Thought I'd share 'em again here, simply because it proves the point that these cars need very little to be successful, and the milder the better. Cool thread indeed....

    Very mild version:
(OK, except for the Olds sheetmetal, glass roof insert, etc....)

...and slightly more radical (idea here was an ex-show car, turned street machine in the '60's...)

  30. Amazing. Safarinut is one of the most talented pinstripers and sign men going. Disrespectful.

You are entitled to your own opinion of course, but you don't have to be ignorant.
