We all knew it was coming and today was the day. Across the top of the cover it states; FINAL ISSUE GET IT WHILE YOU CAN. It is labeled as the March '07 issue. It is really a nice issue as well. Oh well, Good Bye Custom Rodder...
man that ****s... it was becoming one of my more favorite mags. i'm out of town. wonder if mine came?
Warpigg, really nice to see you on. It's been a while since I have seen an early member post. Goofy I know, but still brings back my early *** whoopping that I got. I am now happier....................
ha, i recall that as well. i'm happier now too... that's why i don't whoop *** anymore. i just smart off and hide.
"The Suits" upstairs killed Custom Rooder several years ago, when they quit showing hands on Customizing How To articles , and started putting restored cars with billet wheels on the cover. When was the last time Bill Hines was in Custom Rodder ? Seemed like it was almost every month at one point, rounding hood corners, chopping tops,Leading, etc. Then it became a clone of the Street Rodder business model: "How to follow the instructions that came in the box". Sounds like people quit buying it for a reason. Used to be my favorite magazine. I still miss the old Custom Rodder.
"Used to be my favorite magazine. I still miss the old Custom Rodder." I couldn't agree more. I stopped buying it a couple of years ago. It's too bad. But at least we have Kustoms Illustrated now.
Might be. If you already subscribe to R&C it will be extended. Be sure to check your mailing label to see that it was extended. Your expiration date should be in the upper right corner.
R&C Lee...i just moved ,,i bought my 4 year subscription to R&C a couple years ago at the street rod nats from those guys selling subscriptions,,who do i need to contact to change my mailing adress?
Rob, I thought it was cool that they had you and Weez each write a last editorial/goodbye. I think that showed cl*** on their part.
Too bad it isn't "Old School Rodz" That would signal the end of Greaserbilly kulture. I'm waiting patiently.
Sorry, that "trend" still has exactly 8 years, 9 months, 16 hours and 27 minutes left on the clock. After that it will be unkool and retro-style gold chainers from the 80's will be totally "in".
CT does a better job, true, I think you did a bit on door panels and other interior bits lately but there really is an abundance of how to's for new products and not for us dumpster divers who will put a 73-87 front suspension on a 60-66 C10. I'm not asking for a feature like that in every issue but maybe one a quarter to start? Also, not nearly enough 60-66 Chevy feature trucks, all I ever see are in the event coverage articles. If you have a 47-59 anything or a 67-72 Chevy you are golden. As soon as I get all of my parts set up to do the ch***is swap I have planned I'll snap digi pics of the process and send it to CT to do what they may with them. All parts will be painted and pretty. I understand that demographics and such plays into what vehicles you cover and what kind of how to there is on your pages, but I'd sure appreciate being thrown a bone once in a while (and I don't mean that in a GMB way either!). Thanks RF.
Not to got totally off-sub, but you're absolutely right about the mid-'60s GM trucks. I'll take anything I can get at this point--I'm even looking for a short-wide big-window myself now that the Cheech hauler's done. Speaking of alternate front suspension for them, I just did a piece on Porterbuilt's all new kit. It's not cheap like a junkyard clip, but it completely alleviates the low-slung crossmember on the '60s-87 trucks. Okay, back to the regular programming.
The first year-or-two of issues really got me excited. Then it slid into its "resto rod with 22-inchers" mode and it was no longer the first thing I looked for on the newsstand anymore. When they published an article about the "missing" Polynesian, and I sent them clear directions to the body shop where it was found some years later, I figured that they were really just "suits" lip-synching what they thought we wanted to hear.
The last issue!!! I was pleased to see the K.K.O.A. coverage in Salina, Ks. This is a very cool show, in a great setting. Our Omaha home boy Byron O'Dowds Mercury has a nice picture in that show coverage, his ultra-sanitary Merc. is a rare 100% build by Byron, his son and friends. Nice to see an unchopped, not that chopped is not cool, but this flawless build is one of the finest on the planet. Plenty of other cool mags available! I thought the 54 chebby by Foose was another example of big bucks ability to stay with a cl***ic look. Nuff said! R.I.P. Custom Rodder-Sololobo P.S. The red 60 Poncho w/merc grille was also a Nebraka build by G.I. Body Shop, Grand Island, Ne. Gary Gerberding, his son and staff turn out some bad-to-the-bone customs!
Ok. Question... I have two Custom Rodder stickers in the back side windows of my '49,should i leave 'm on or take them off?????I just started subscribing again a year ago and then this....
Sorry for bumping the thread back up, but there's a newsstand on the corner of Sepulveda and National Blvd. in the West Los Angeles area that has a few copies left. Don't know how scarce these might be getting so I thought I'd post it up.
