I've owned 5 '40 Chevys, and it was always a challenge to find good fenders, and you go and whack yours apart. Way to go man!! I think we have all heard the saying, anyone can restore an old car, but it takes a real man to cut one up. I think you fit the bill. This would be a hard enough job for an experienced car builder, but it makes it even better that this is your first. I don't think there needs to be a second, how would you follow this up?

Well it's about damn time! I sold you those fenders almost 2 years ago! That is freakin' sweet. But you didn't use the cool little speed lines;) .

For the record, they're off a '39 Dodge. You know, the front end only a Chrysler exec. could love.
    Lookin' fine, Cleatus

I've admilred that car from the first pictures you posted of it. I could hardly make myself believe this was your first customizing effort. Now you've gone and raised the bar again. Very nice work and well thought out progress.
Again I'll state I don't see how you can make it any better, but it won't surprise me if you come up with yet another great modification.

    that is one nice car.
I dont see many people willing to brave something like that because of such a small thing you noticed and didnt like so you changed it.
thats what this sport is all about.

Cleatus, I would'nt worry about every angle.
You've nailed it in the "flow" department.

The shapes of the fenders to the top, and back of the front fenders to the back fenders.

    Very nice work.

The photos of your work were blowing me away and then when I read this statement I just went into shock. If you weren't married I'd offer to bare your children. :D PLEASE keep us up to date with more photos.

It really takes balls to cut into that fender, but very workconsuming details like that and a damn good eye is what separates standard kustoms from those cl***ic kustoms people will talk about and refer to forever. The steel hardtop rather than solid roof on the Ohnesian Merc is the same thing.

Beautiful indeed, and thanks for making such an interesting thread out of it.

Please, if I had kids, they'd be bored enough already. :)

Thanks again for the kind words everybody, it really helps keep me motivated in the garage during the nice spring weather when I'd rather be out riding or something.

Seriously, You have to post a 'before' picture of the pile of rust you started with...

If this car was truely you first project, and it started at such a humble beginning, you really are my hero.

The benefit of starting with such a serious pile of sh-- is that you never have to feel guilty for cutting it to bits.

    This was my starting point:

Sometimes I have to believe in reincarnation. Do you have surpressed memories of being Sam Barris?? Or Harry Westergaard?

Beautiful flow. True coachwork craftsman, that's what I see.
