Thanks Guys. Not to hijack the thread but these pics show what I put together to come up with my custom. Using an early Olds Rocket mated to a rebuilt F-1 light duty 3 speed floor trans that I converted to torque tube. Chassis is stock 41 Ford car. Top is chopped 4"'s and cab is channeled 6" Cab was from a 51-52 F-6. 1941 Ford car front fenders modified to fit as well as grafting the rear of the F series hood the the 41 Ford car hood. I call it my "Junkyard" custom as everything that I started with was slated to be scrapped. I have done all the work myself with some help from a few friends to do the heavy lifting. Truck is now 2"s lower than the last pic as I have added some longer shackles front and rear. The plan calls for removal of the running boards. Stock 16" rims . Maybe WW's 1941 Ford long style skirts. 49 Plymouth bumpers. Appletons. Tuck and roll interior......You all know the drill I guess that I now have a new goal. Customs by the Sea 2016..... Torchie
Sondre works so very hard at everything he does for the "World of Kustoms"...and, works harder at trying to do it here from all the way over in NORWAY ! His October 1st photo says it all ! With the wind/rain/storm from the hurricane, it wouldn't have been "Customs By The Sea" it would have been "Customs IN The Sea" !! You're absolutely right, but if you're going to be strict to the letter of the law, there would be very few OHV V8 engine options for the customs. No nailheads, no small block fords or chevys, no poly head mopars, no y -blocks...pretty much just the engines you mentioned. But that's missing the point of my post. All of the cars shown in the CBTS2 show properly look the part and shouldn't be excluded based on their drivetrain (especially if the hood stays shut, as God intended), even though they aren't as uber-traditional as desired. It doesn't detract from the aesthetic.
You should come down for next years CUSTOMS BY THE SEA and you can bring your "uber traditional" custom car. Maybe then you can post something positive for a change. They were few, yes but THEY WENT
Ummmmm Joe has a killer Ford Kustom....won the A Bros award a few years ago at Autorama.....I would say that a pretty big achievement for anyone building a custom car no matter what year it is...
Lets please not turn this into a pissing match. Leave that stuff for the other side of the board As a guy that was taught by the old timers that did this stuff back in the day and as some one who lived thru the time when you couldn't give a custom of any kind away, It's all good. There are plenty of shows now for every ones taste. Even if I don't have my custom ready by the 16 show I plan on being there to see those that do......... Torchie
I finally had a chance to look this thread over Sondre. I think you did a great job and I think the show definitely has chops for next year. Thank you so much for the "customs D'elegance award! I can't wait for next year!! Here are a few of my photos from the trip and the show! 4:00 am and we shoved off! Ron In his flat six powered Plymouth Skeeter In his model a with zero miles on an unknown engine me and my dad in my Merc thinking I had a head gasket ready to pop and a clutch that felt soft! Then the chopper dorks in my chase truck pulling Rons trailer. The sun finally came up over the beautiful North Carolina back roads Traveling with pops was great! Old cars on the Chesapeake bay bridge.... Always sketches me out!!! And when we landed!! Oh yeah we picked up club member Paulie in Durham nc... I know the cut off irritates a lot of people and I know there has been a ton of discussion about power plants and drive terrain. I put 1200+ miles on a 1952 331 Cadillac with a 3 speed lasalle and Ron did the same with his flat six..... Surely there are more crazy custom guys out there like Ron and I!!??
I thought so, too I really wanted to come down this year, and had all intentions of being there but the change of date put TROG in direct conflict with a trip to Las Vegas we've had planned for months. Russ and I were cracking on Scott's Model A roadster for the race, I was really hoping to see it run! Oh well. It's been fun to follow Jeremy's merc build, which is turning into one of the best Mercs built recently, and I was hoping to check it out and hang with all of the Carolina boys. I'm glad Sondre is planning on putting another show in next year. We all had such a good time last year, we all want this show to succeed. I'm sure the weather and change of date kept some people away, for the same reasons I wasn't able to attend this year. But we are concerned that the low cutoff year is going to alienate a lot of the custom guys in the area. There are a TON of great customs in NJ/PA/DE, I'd second Fatty's idea for a reject lot not only for the customs, but for the non-TROG-participating rods. Traditional rods and customs are such a small subset of the automotive hobby as a whole, we're all on the same team. Congrats to Jeremy for the well-deserved award and for making what looks like a helluva fun road trip. We'll see you guys soon!

Kustomrama Customs by the Sea returns! The 3rd annual June 4-5, 2016 in Wildwood, New Jersey. The 1st Customs by the Sea West will be held October 14-15, 2016 in Pismo, California. Pre-Registration/Info http://www.customsbythesea.com/ The Customs by the Sea show, featuring original and modern renditions of pre-1952 customized automobiles, will move inside the TROG gate. Other classic cars from the Fifties and earlier will be invited to take their places outside, opening up more parking on the surrounding streets and giving these special vehicles pride of place.
