Customs Customs by the Sea - Calling all CUSTOMS!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SuperFleye, Aug 14, 2014.

  1. No problem. I started a thread on the car a good while ago but it didn't get much interest. I agree it was a beautiful car. Unfortunately, yes, it's lost the best that we know. It was supposedly a total loss after the fire. It was in a stall at the gas station Morris owned and the whole place burned. Unless someone pulled it back out of the junk yard way back then it's gone. Dad doubts that happened. Feel free to add the information. Happy to put some closure on the where abouts of the car. Unfortunately none of us have any pictures. Dad used to have all of the little books with the car in it but those too have been long lost. He's actually repurchased a couple in the past year.

That sounds like a great event. I'm not ready for a road trip this year though.

We're still hunting customs for the show...new and old, all are welcome as long as they are traditional! Hemmings did a nice post about the show that resulted in some bad ass registrations! We will start to reveal these pretty soon!

In the meantime enjoy some photos from the Joe Kizis Collection, taken at the 1958 Hartford Autorama! These are the kind of cars we are hunting for the special exhibit at the show! The quality of these photos are incredible, and I can't thank the great guys at New England Speed & Custom enough for sharing them with us! Enjoy:

1956 Ford Crown Victoria owned and restyled by John Hychko at Valley Auto Body in Waterbury, Connecticut.

This was the first batch! But there are plenty more to come! Now, who can help us locate any of these for our special exhibit?

Thanks guys! Both the Ford and the Chevy are two modern custom classics I was hoping to see at the show :)

It's time to present some of the pre-registered vehicles for the show! As a HAMB'er I'm sure you are familiar with chopolds' masterpiece: Vic Collin's Kopper Kart Klone! I followed this build carefully on the HAMB back around 2005, and I'm really excited about finally seeing it in real life. Vic's Kopper Kart will be presenting the Barris Brothers at the special exhibit :)

    Bring it on, Sondre!

I've seen this righteous ride several times, in as many different States. Side draft carbs, no less! [It probably takes an old timer (like me) or a Scandinavian (like you) to fully appreciate a ride such as this. :D]

Speaking of Barris pickups, will Olav be cruising the Cataoi pickup?

Yeah, the Kopper Kart Klone is awesome! Unfortunately Olav wouldn't be bringing his pickup! We thought it would have been really kool, but it became a little too expensive unfortunately :(

We're proud to announce another old custom that will be part of the special exhibition at the Customs by the Sea car show. While the Kopper Kart Klone represents the radical custom style of the late 1950s, Harry "Jack" Fry's 1937 Cabriolet is a perfect example of a mild "pre-war" custom! It could have been built in in the 1940s, but it dates back to the early 1960s. Jack was a member of the Brick Dusters of Spring City car club, and he used to race circle track cars back in the 1950s. He won the convertible in a grudge match race against some of his race buddies. The car wasn't in a great shape, but he owned his own body shop, and decided to fix it up. Named Fryer's, Jack's shop was the place to go to for hot rod paint jobs back in the day. The build was completed in the early 1960s, and he kept on to the car until he passed away in 2002. Jack's nephew, Paul Fry, was able to buy the old custom back in 2012. It has been away from the scene for some years now, and we look forward to see it make it's comeback in Wildwood! More info and photos on Jack's old custom can be found here:

We are really excited to announce this featured ride for the Customs by the Sea car show! Maximilian King's 1940 Mercury is a cornerstone car when it comes to early East Coast Custom history, and it is one of the oldest suviving East Coast customs. In 1946 Max had Meekers Body Shop of Morris Plains, New Jersey restyle the car for the first time. Just to put this into perspective, 1946 is the same year as Jimmy Summers restyled his 1940 Mercury! It was sold to Ray Henyon around 1955. In 1959 Ray decided to upgrade the look of the car, so he took it to Richard "Korky" Korkes for a restyling. Korky added canted Lincoln taillights, 1958 Impala taillights, nerf bars and more, before he gave it a scallop paint job. It went into storage in 1961, and stayed that way unyil Mark Conforth bought it in 1983. Mark still owns it, and in October he will bring it to Wildwood for the Customs by the Sea and the Race of Gentlemen! Be sure to read the full story of the car before you check it out at the show: http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Maximilian_King's_1940_Mercury

It's Friday, and time to present some more featured rides we will have at the Customs by the Sea car show!
So far we have the West Coast and the Barris Brothers represented trough the Kopper Kart Klone. We also have the East Coast and Korky Korkes represented trough the Max King Merc! Today we are excited to announce that we also have Detroit and the Clarskaiser Custom Shop represented trough Frank and Charles Gilardone's 1953 Ford Victoria:

The old Clarkaiser custom is currently owned by East Coast Custom enthusiast Mikey Miranda, and we can't thank him enough for bringing the car to Wildwood!

In addition to the historic customs, Customs by the Sea will also contain some great recent built custom cars, such as Cody Walls' 1959 Chevrolet Brokwood wagon, and Joe Siclari's 1957 Ford custom! Two sharp looking customs many of you know from the HAMB:

We're excited to announce another historic custom you will find in the special exhibit at the Customs by the Sea car show in Wildwood, NJ next weekend! This chopped, channeled and sectioned 1939 Ford coupe was originally restyled by Hank Fournier for Ken Costello of Cranston, Rhode Island in 1959. Willy Ouimette bought it in 1965. He fixed it up, and drove it for a while before he sold it so he could buy a home for his family! Willy was able to trace the remains of the car in 2010, and in 2011 he debuted the restored version of the car! Read the rest of the incredible story here: http://www.kustomrama.com/index.php?title=Ken_Costello's_1939_Ford
