Reminds me of a girl I once knew. She could eat corn on the cob from the other side of a picket fence...

I kinda have to agree it lost me when I saw the front bumpers and the caddy quarter panels for rear fenders.

For as much crap as this car gets Ive seen other cars built around 1960 with the same radiator stance, one was a Hemi powered Dodge. The son had bought his dads car back and the two of them restored it.

  7. This is the all time "UGLIEST CAR EVER" I think it started out as a nice 40 Merc convert. Now it's a puzzle on wheels.[IMG]

I think most of us really appreciate a well thought out custom where the components chosen and the bodywork to blend them is well done. It doesn't have to be a wild custom or even done by a professional. I've seen a lot of mild customs that I really like. I'm especially partial to the mid-fifties Mercs and the shoebox Fords and even the 53/54 Chevy, 50s Buicks even some of the early 50s Plymouths. Everyone likes the early 50s Mercs.

On the other hand, there are many customs that are downright butt-ugly. To me they are the early version of todays Rat Rods where lots of useless things are overdone and they look grotesque. That said, I've seen some really well done Rat Rods where people went for a certain look and made good choices on what they used. It really doesn't matter to me what segment of the car building society a car is built for.........rod/custom/whatever..........its simply a matter of whether I can look at the overall car and like what I see. Someone can build something repulsive in any category. I consider myself to be a "hot rod" guy at heart, but it doesn't mean I don't have a soft spot for a well done custom too.

I like all these cars. Not overdone and well thought out.

I think all these cars are excellent and well thought out..........and I also don't believe all Hot Rods are well thought out. Its not one or the other, there are fine examples on both sides and there are lousy ones on both sides. ;)

It's probably already mentioned, but there were threads on "East Coast vs West Coast", and beaucoup magazine articles in "little pages". The biggest issue was the weather available and customs or rods being driven year round as they made progress, while most West Coast cars had excellent weather year round. I agree that some Eastern cars were rather rough looking, and even York coverage more current, they'd showcase the weirder and eccentric Eastern rods.

That stubby was parked next to me at GG a few years ago, though I thought it was dark blue then? It was well done.

I shortened a '63 bus forty years ago. Removed the length of one rear door, and lowered it a couple inches. Probably still sitting in the Bay Area somewhere.

    WAKE UP people...

There's NO need to show the same car two or three times (unless there's some sort of comment in the second post) !
Look over at least the previous two or three (or four!) pages before you post a car that someone else posted four cars back !!

  17. Hot rods are more scrutinized than customs are because you can more or less post pictures of any and all "custom" cars but "hot rods" that are generally considered "rat rods" will likely be deleted.

Geeez, Anthony, you come up w/some of the most interesting things. Your fertile imagination just attracts this stuff like iron filing to a magnet? :D .

Kinda too bad that - or something very close to it - didn't get used in one of the original Batman series. A parallel version of the Munsters' Coach n Grandpas' Dragster. Would've been an interesting show(Maybe even morphed into a full length-movie like the Munsters did). I wonder how they'd spun that story? Esp w/the kitch that the orig series shows were. Would've been interesting to see which "name" hotrodder they'd conjured-up for the bad-guy role. Or maybe good-guy, depending on how the show was spun.
    :D .

Some of these wild , Kustoms don’t trip everyone’s trigger. But the owner or builder got out there and put their ideas onto wheels . Then drove it . Bad Chad has some different ideas . What I like about Him is He goes out into His shop and builds cars . I wish I had a 3rd of His motivation and skills

  22. This is exactly what I am talking about. I am not a fan of either of these vehicles but just because the taste of the builder it questionable that doesn't mean the craftsmanship is poor.

It is difficult to say but the truck looks well built, a lot of metal shaping and body work.
