Hey everyone, a friend of mine is restoring an old model T, but he is building the motor a little for more power, What he is trying to do is put the model A crank into the original T block, he says it has been done, and he knows the specs, What he doesnt know is how he should go about welding the crank together after he cut it to fit. He is a very experianced welder, but just wants to know exactly how he should go about it, because he has never welded that type of steel. any type of help would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!!

  2. It has been done many times
Best place to go is to the Model T club website and ask them. It has been discussed there a number of times in the past year or so.

There are two basic schools of thought. One is to cut the A flange off and shrink a T flange on after cutting the crank to length. The other is the "heat and squeeze" method where the rear main is heated red hot and the crank is placed in a press and squeezed to length. It is then trued up and the main recut to size
