Don't do it!It will explode! The only thing you can do is ( water ) belt sand the edges ,Very carefully and slow if you need just a little trimmed off. If you need a lot forget it. You may have to use LEXAN to replace the gl*** if you need a lot.

I was chatting with Gene Winfield not too long ago. My plans called for cutting side and rear gl***. Gene just smiled and shook his head no. Gene has probably chopped more tops than anybody. If he doesn't know how to do it, it can't be done!

On some cars you might find a big laminated windshield with the same contours somewhere on it and cut to fit, or change the metal to fit it, or have one made $$$

  7. I agree with the good Doctor. you have two ways to go if you want go with gl***. I did a post on cutting windshields down for a back gl***. another shot is many of the repop backgl***es coming from China are laminated and can be cut
what part of Washington, I'm in Oregon City and can probably help

Well, there is an outside shot at it. But it's a long shot. Alot will smoke me for this but if you are really careful you can take alot of time and patience and cut with a grinding wheel on a 4" grinder. But you have to go really slow support the gl*** and put tape over the cutting area. I have removed corners this way, and in theory you should be able to get through a whole rear gl***. But one wrong vibration or too much heat and pop, sprinkles everywhere. It doesn't hurt to run a hose on it as well. The idea is to grind away the gl*** just like beltsanding but in the open. If there is any stress in the gl*** already you can forget it and most old gl*** is fragile at best. But if it's your only option it's your only option. Sinking the gl*** is a much safer way. Find another piece of gl*** before you cut yours as well to back it up.

    Great luck,
    Tim

PS- Do this outside and make sure the gl*** is not in direct sunlight and grind away from you, gl*** takes along time to finally come out of your pores. Ask me how I know. Make sure you start with a fresh wheel and if it starts to wiggle at all change it. Shape it on some concrete to take the square edge off the wheel.

Better yet just take no-name up on his offer it will probably save your trash can the grief
