Quick question, I have a small block I want to clean up a bit, just knock some of the surface rust off the cylinders so it looks better to sell,'or maybe I'll use it. Not sure. Yes. Never mind the detrimental effect to the cross hatch because the cylinders are rusty and need to be re-bored anyway.

A ball hone you mean? Yeah, that will work but you have to do the cross hatch pattern right. That is your ring's oiling system.
