Quick question, I have a small block I want to clean up a bit, just knock some of the surface rust off the cylinders so it looks better to sell,'or maybe I'll use it. Not sure. My question is can I just use some oil on a a scotch bright pad? Sounds like a dumb question but I just want to check.

Yes. Never mind the detrimental effect to the cross hatch because the cylinders are rusty and need to be re-bored anyway.

Thanks, what about running a finishing hone though? I didn't think of that until after I asked the question.

A ball hone you mean? Yeah, that will work but you have to do the cross hatch pattern right. That is your ring's oiling system.
