I just read this whole thread just to see "what's up". From the read I get one thing, the HAMB is awesome once again. Where else can you get feedback on a subject in such a short time and "real world experience" to boot. If I were to need ANY service out of the ordinary, or one I was unfamiliar with, I'd post it here and get some feedback before proceeding. You just can't beat country (and world) wide experience when venturing into the unknown.
Kudos once again to Ryan for this place, it's super.

DAS drives me nuts! I think the only way they are staying in business is being the ebay recommended shipper. A couple weeks ago I sold a car on ebay and the buyer of course used DAS. They sub contracted it who in turn sub contracted a portion of the haul. No one at DAS knew who was coming, when they were coming or anything. I kept getting a bunch of weird phone calls from no name companies telling me they were coming to get the car. What a mess! Highly DON'T recommend!

I strongly recommend for shipping/transport: our own BenD, DeMoise Trk-ing http://www.demoise.com/ , Passport/FedEx http://passport.fedex.com/ or even Blue Highways http://www.bluehighways.net/. The last three companies are all enclosed car haulers I have had excellent service from.

Groucho, I feel your pain :( or should I say your anger!

Well, for what it's worth, I sold a car on e-bay before the Holiday and of course, the buyer (Baltimore) used DAS. I'm in Illinois (about 10 miles from their local office) so I dropped the car to DAS, took photo's in front of their logo/sign to e-mail the buyer (verify condition). The buyer picked the car up at DAS terminal/yard in Baltimore 6 days later. They had washed the car (it was clean when they got it) and he was happy as a fat girl on prom night. Go figure. Stu

Yup 5AM Friday morning, me and the trailer is heading to Old Verginie to pick up a 48 Chev. Aero Cp.

This one is gonna be interesting cause it seems the heap is a bit wider than the trailer sides but we'll get her on somehow.

I used them twice in the last year. Had my coupe shipped from Wisc. and my Tahoe from Pa. they brokered both cars. shipped right to my house. both within a 10 day window.drivers both called me way ahead of time to let me know when they would arrive.

  8. if some asshole i hired was going to throw my parts away i would be coming apart at the seams! i had a drunk cousin haul off a apple bin FULL of 57' plymouth parts because he is a dick. still have hard feelings about that to this day, selfish muther fucker!

Well ebay sucks so what would you expect?

Groucho and others, I appreciate the heads up. I add to my auctions "Will not ship DAS" when selling cars from now on.

My best friend just sold his '64 lincoln continental, we're delivering it tomorrow mid day to....TEXAS!!! i am pretty sketchy about transporters cause of everyone having horror stories, so you know what they say, "You want something done right, DO IT YOURSELF!" so...with that being said, anyone know of any good junkyards in the El Paso area???:D

You can also check out Teeter Transport. I've used them a couple times and so has a neighbor of mine.

BenD for me…hell, he’ll back that trailer right up and help you roll that brakeless non starting bitch right where it needs to be set :) and I am talking one heck of a speed bump for a driveway back then.

I think I may have even disrespected him once. Sorry for that, I called him for a shipping quote before I bid and it was so damn reasonable I felt bad for taking his time, because I then promptly lost the auction.

Though there is a very small issue with him (he refuses beer and so I have to ask a lot like a science project because it’s rare someone refuses a cold beer and usually they ask for more and then spend like the whole day and you wonder if they will make it back to where they have to go or if they are ever leaving and my wife gets scared they want to sleep on the couch with the dog.

I will use his services again.

  17. Always take a big trailer. We've cleaned out a lot of garages and storage units while picking up a car. Under no circumstances do you leave free parts behind just because you don't have enough room to haul them. Hauling you own car also gives peice of mind.

I'm having a 55 F100 delivered tomorrow and could not be happier with DAS.

I bought it out of Tampa and live in NY (1200mi). It would cost me more to hook up the trailer to go get it, and miss up to 4 days work, so I went with DAS. I figured the cost of shipping as part of the purchase price (that's what you get for living up here).

They have called me both at the Florida and NJ terminals and described that the truck has mechanical problems, in short, it will not start.

Now I bought this truck over the internet, confident I could fix small problems, and the seller did assure me it would start and run. And maybe it did once, but now it won't, and that's not DAS's responsibility. Could be something as simple as a battery cable, but DAS is not a service station. At this point I figure it's my problem, but what to do? Truck is paid for, shipping is paid in advance.

So BOTH times DAS called me, they apologized for the delay, and told me they would take care of it, once for a nominal fee. I was very happy they took the initiative TO DO WHAT IT TAKES TO GET THE JOB DONE.

I apologized to them that the truck was not in running condition and thanked them profusely for doing what it takes without complaint.

  19. DAS stands for Dent And Scratch... and that's all if you're lucky.

Wow that sucks. Ive used them many times and have never had any issues. I know their policy is to not store stuff in the cars they ship for multiple reasons, but besides that, they have been top notch for me. Sorry to hear you had such issues.

I have used a few different shippers for cars and motorcycles. ALL OF THEM HAVE SUCKED! I don't know what the solution is.

I used DAS twice for me, once for a buyer. First time they delivered my "Top loaded" car with oil, brake and trans fluid all over the roof. It was a very nice car and I paid more to have it top loaded. Like some guys on here I figured it was a one time thing and you couldnt judge the company... Well the second time the jack-ass got my '57 Eldo stuck on the bumper & concrete... I was bitter, he didnt know what to do and tried to floor the gas, didnt work...
Third time at a pick-up they couldnt get my '56 Fury up the ramp to the position just above the semi, and the guy got a running start flooring it with almost no brakes... I figured he had insurance if he went over, and he almost did.
DAS sucks. I have also used Exotic Auto and Thomas Sunday a few times and both have been very good. I also used Ben D for a body only and he was great.

  23. April 15th, AmeriFrieght is supposed to pick up a car for me in Ohio and haul it to SoCal. I chose them because they were one of the cheapest ($755) and they had a great rating on www.transportreviews.com. I looked up and quoted numerous places before choosing AmeriFrieght. I hope it turns out alright for me.
The last time I had a transport from FL to OH ($300, don't remember what company), it arrived with a cracked windshield and the paint peeling from the roof and hood due to numerous auto fluids (brake, trans, etc.) that had dripped all over it during transport.

  24. You can't have it both ways. There are individuals and companies that are both hauling for less than the cost of diesel fuel. The prices may seem cheap, but when you wait ....... and wait for pick up and drop off, when your car arrives not the same as when it left, 'cheap' suddenly turns into 'expensive'. The solution is to find personalized transport where your car is not transferred from one trailer to another and you are not dealing with a Broker. I have a custom 39' open trailer with a low deck just 2' off the ground. It has a wood floor and a 7500 lb. electric winch. I built it to transport vintage travel trailers dating back to 1925. The deck is 35' feet long and can handle up to 96" wide loads. I travel only during the day at 55 m.p.h. This is our 6th year. Check out our website @ http://www.trulyvintagetrailers.citymax.com/page/page/4069093.htm You can reach me on my cell phone at (937) 671-5537.

  25. I see this is an old thread but Ill go ahead and chime in too. I used DAS to ship my 61 Lincoln Convertible from Connecticut to Seattle area. I paid a bunch extra to have it shipped in an enclosed trailer. It took weeks longer to get here then they said it would. When it finally arrived they called to let me know. I told them I would be right down to pick it up. When I got there they said they hadn't had time to wash it up. So much for having it shipped in an enclosed trailer. I was so happy to finally get it, I just took it as it was and hit the local car wash. It looked like it just took a drive down the Alcan. At least there was no damage anywhere.

I just had a huge '77 New Yorker Brougham shipped from AZ to IN. I checked on the Transportreviews site and chose Agape Auto Transport because they had very high ratings. Excellent company, they came when they said they would, very professional, and the car got to my buyer in Kokomo in perfect condition. I give 'em a gold star.

If you want a good laugh, check out the ratings on Transportreviews for DAS. Freaking pathetic!
