I'm Ed Weldon from Los Gatos, CA (some 34 years since I left NJ) All my old friends in New Jersey likely think I'm gone and swimming with dah fishes. Nope, only one---but more on that later..... About me -------- I’m a retired mechanical engineer, ex-Silicon Valley, with too much time on my hands and not enough ears willing to listen to my rants. When my brain is not moving my mouth I devote myself to my charming and delightful wife and my myriad of creative hobbies. Which include the following, none of which I seem to do justice to: --My land speed race car money pit which likely will never set a record. --Antique hot rods that are always “a few hours” from being roadworthy. But the 32 is getting there slowly. --The forever unfinished HOn3 model train layout. Just not enough rainy winter days to get from here to there. --My home workshop full of metalworking gizmos; only accessible by walking sideways. --Sundry leaky small sailboats, skiffs, etc. , none over 14 feet long. --Flyfishing; but never catching anything longer than 12 inches. --A garden with 6 bird (or squirrel?) feeders, 100 different varieties of deer food and 200 types of weeds. I've messed around with hot rods for most of my life since age 17. Last 20 or so years I've been involved with Bonneville and a couple of friends who have a pretty potent flathead powered modified roadster. After my deuce got messed up by things falling on it during the 89 earthquake I just lost the fire and it sat till the brake cylinders all corroded up and the gas tank turned into the Los Gatos Tar Pit. After I retired I started working on it and then this old Bonneville street roadster showed up on my doorstep. So I've got two projects going with all the other time sponges that grow like weeds when you retire. I'm an engineer at heart but unlike most of my peers in that world I'm more into low tech than high tech. But in this forum I may sometimes throw out a technical opinion based on my engineering training and experience. 40 years of engineering machinery and manufacturing processes for a living taught me a few things and from time to time this knowledge comes in useful in messing around with hobby stuff. But one thing that 40 years didn't teach me very well was knowing how and when to keep my mouth shut. I think that's one of the reasons my old boss urged me to take the early retirement. Age brings a certain amount of wisdom; so I'll respect everybody's wishes when I hear the dreaded words: SHUT UP FISH!!
