Daily? I'm retired, so some days I don't, but at least twice a week, rain or shine. Finally got fenders on the trailer, need to paint when it warms up. Only hook it up if there hogs to haul to the sale barn..........
'58 Ranchero... Had it 13 years... Raleigh, NC... Gotta be Shannon! Welcome to the HAMB, man!!!! -murph
Timely topic for me, as I recently sold my "new" vehicle and am now relying on my "old" stuff as my daily drivers. Why? - I was tired of my truck (2002 Ford Harley F150.) - Couldnt find one single new replacement car that got me excited. Driving a new car reminds me of having to wear a school uniform-- there is nothing unique to like about it, and it makes my life much too "routine". - I paid almost $40k for a new car that I just sold on ebay for only $20k a couple years later. Depreciation of boring new cars ****s. Going forward, i'll surely rely on my wifes newer car for long trips. My old cars also motivate me to use public transportation (which is convenient for me) during insane busy traffic hours-- as driving the cars I love in long bumper to bumper traffic angers me-- kinda like trying to swim laps in a bathtub. We'll see how it goes.... Here's to keeping real iron on the roads. -scott noteboom
I couldn't agree more. My daily (weather permitting) is actually my motorcycle. But up until some months ago, when I drove...I drove my 65 TBird. She's been having some electrical issues lately. So I went out and got an 88 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (the woody) for the non-motorcycle winter commute. Soon as the issues are sorted out, the Bird will be flying again...daily.
i also drive my 54 merc gl***top alot throughout the year. dont know how many miles though, no odometer... no brains, no headaches. hmmm maybe thats why i never get headaches.
We drive our '35 Sedan everywhere, evry day. My wife's near-new Chevy Avalanche just sits in the driveway. If I didn't need to haul junk once in awhile I'd get rid of it!
I drive my '30 coupe every day. Right now it's got the studded snow tires on it. I've worn out four 4-bangers, a flathead and am on my fifth sbc. I've personally logged over 400,000 miles in it. I hit a bridge at speed after hitting black ice and got hit by both a Citation and an 80's Cadillac. It's now at the point for another rebuild as the bushings in the four-bars are worn out. I'v worn out two sets of king pins in just the spindles that are on it now. When it's down, I'll drive either my '33 or '34 pickup for a while.
Almost every day and definitely every weekend. L'il VaBeach loves the car. And of course it will make short trips. Paul
It sounds as if you are suggesting that there is Someone who Does Not drive old cars and only old cars every day. They stopped making old cars in 1948, after that all cars are modern . I drive my old cars every day. My newest car is a 1966 model. I try to drive it to the grocery store once every month or two to keep it in good condition. I have some cars from the 50s but the newer it is, the less I drive it.
I am saying that there are alot of people that just have their old car for the weekends and when its sunny... My daily everywhere, everything car is a 1954 belair, chopped and lowwered...no wipers, no side windows...no 12 volt...I was just curious to see what everyone else that did not have another car...or their "daily" what it was that they drove..
LATLY I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY 39 SEDAN more than my 32 roadster the weather has been on and off.pluse i just got it back on the road and i have missed driving it. -danny
By the way, here are some pics of my recent daily drivers: http://us.a2.yahoofs.com/users/43d584e0zae48df2/cbb7/__sr_/e7a2.jpg?phwDs4DBJetRDQdQ The first pic is of my '62 Cadillac that I recently sold. Built it about 4 years ago. It was bagged w/ whitewall and largely stock. I recently sold it so I had had room for.... http://us.a2.yahoofs.com/users/43d584e0zae48df2/1944/__sr_/ce4bscd.jpg?phwDs4DBUqslGlu3 This is my current driver, which is a 1960 Chevy wagon. I bought it from Billy Wishart in San Jose recently and it's a great ride. http://us.a2.yahoofs.com/users/43d584e0zae48df2/mail/__sr_/4f5fscd.jpg?phwDs4DBk5oN.g_2 This pic is of the recent bike I built, which is a rider. Before the naysayers get down on me for a west coast chopper bike, understand that I had a connection on all the parts and was originally going to build and sell it to make cash. However, it ended up really liking it and it fits me nicely (i'm 6'6" and my previous triumph bobber just didnt fit me well...) I'm liking this bike a lot... -scott noteboom
I used to drive this Riviera every day until some ***** in a Saturn went and ran her car down the entire length of the drivers side. Now it sits at my house in Tampa waiting for me to save the money to fix it (which I will someday). I really love this car. It took me nearly 3 years to get it looking like this. I'll never sell it. Then I bought myself a Porsche 911 c4 convertable to cheer myself up, which I had to sell a year later when I lost my job. That ****ed too. Now I drive a Toyota 4-runner. I bought this one because I was planning on doing sales in the field & needed a good vehicle to wine & dine people with (contrary to my handle I quit the repo game several years ago when I got sick of working 15 hour days just to make less money every year). However, as of today I am offically working for a large computer manufacturer in Nashville (in sales), so I'm moving there next week. I don't need the 4runner since I'm not in the field, so I'm going to sell it once I've got a few big commission checks under my belt. I plan on buying a late 90's vette & bolting a supercharger on it. I enjoy brutally fast cars. I should be driving back to Florida here in a couple of month to pick up my 59 Buick (my machinist friend has had this car sitting at his shop FOREVER). I think he's been so slow to get my motor done because of all the people it draws to his shop. He's told me it's the best adverti*****t he's ever had. It's a 59 LeSabre body sitting on a 70 wildcat GS ch***is. 455 / th400, mild cam, a little head work, Performer intake, modified q-junk. I'm hoping for 425-450 horses (and God only knows how much torque) out of the build. I'll be driving her a lot once I get her back home.
not only a daily, but also a junk hauler. bout 10 mins prior to this picture, it also had two transmissions in the trunk. the back seat has 5 wheels and tires on it too. LOL
No problem beyaaatch! This one will be my DAILY driver truck. My wife will probably be driving it alot on her 14 mile commute to work and back every day. I started cutting this evening. Its going to have an ALL Ford drivetrain, and be lowered quite a bit. I'm losing the 8 lug 18" wheels and will replace them with 15" cragars. Its gonna be a kick *** daily.
This one has been MY PERSONAL daily driver for a while. But I've been cheating and driving my wife's truck around..... Not anymore.
Not pointing fingers or 'having a go' at anyone, but I thought a daily driver meant you drove it every day (that you drive) regardless of weather etc?? But then again I have never seen snow so wouldn’t have a clue what its like to drive in!! This was my daily driver for about 6 years, Im on a motorbike now, rain hail or shine...................... but no snow!! Cheers, Doc.
You mean this stuff? This car was my daily driver for two years (1999-2000), then I drove the '66 Econoline for about 4 years. I sold the Econoline and the Falcon is comfortably resting in my garage. I now drive a '03 Dakota. I can't stand stock vehicles, so I lowered it. I use it for part and cycle hauling. I quickly got used to having a radio and air conditioning.
Everyday. Even when there's a big square hole because I ran out of gas welding in patch panels! Actually, today is the first time in at least 10 months I didn't drive it because I'm putting bearclaw latches in and I didn't feel like using a bungie cord. I picked up some gas this morning. I'll hopefully get the latches in tonight!
