Limeworks Speed Shop have one in their deuce and a second one sitting on the shelf. Give them a call, great guys to talk with when I visited their shop this past January....
Paul, Out of curiosity, what's the asking price? I saw this last year - very nice truck & love the baby hemi! Unfortunately, I'm in no position to purchase it...but would be curious on the price...
I remember my dad working on drag race motors over here in the early to mid 1970's - most of them were Daimler V8s. I remember that Hepolite pistons for Triumph Bonneville bikes were often used and that he worked on the motor for a Daimler powered blown/nitro rail that was running 7 second quarters! If you go here: http://www.theaccelerationarchive.co.uk and do a search on 'daimler' there are a ton of pics of early British drag cars running these baby Hemi motors.
These engines were shoehorned into the 3.8 series Jaguars as well and made a quick little road car.I think these are as rare as the SP250's or even more so. This one had the auto box in it but the manual could be had on special order. One of these with the 4.4ltr motor would have been a sleeper.Keep on roddin'.
A Jag restoration business near me closed down and sold all his parts by public auction a few weeks ago. I spotted a complete 2.5 V8 Daimler motor in his stuff, but didn't go to the auction as there was nothing else there I wanted and I figured the engine would be way out of my price range. It was complete, and had a suspected bent rod, but otherwise was a runner. It sold for $30! And the scrappie who bought it apparently smashed it to bits in his truck to separate the alloy from the steel. I could have cried! Cheers, Glen.
Hi folks Im new around here and found this thread seem to be a good way to wave the flag and say hello. I have one of these engines which was previously in a Model A pickup. Owner wanted to go SBC so I managed to pick up the little Daimler V8 . Engine is going into a replica Kurtis Kraft Midget. See pics below. Also building a K8 Special with Flathead V8 power and a 28 Plymouth ute. For those unfamiliar with the Australian terminology this is a vehicle a bit like a pickup except the "pickup" bit is integral with the rest of the body/cab.
for the UK fellas, didnt Russ Carpenter run one in his dragster (rail) in the late 70's early 80's?...ran a series of how to get the most power out of them in the HOT ROD & CUSTOM UK magazine (long gone)mini cooper pistons ring a bell?..i'm pretty sure he ran single figure quarter miles .......?????
Yes there were a series of article produced I do have some scans of them somewhere. And yes 8 sec quarter miles were run by Russ carpenter with the little 2.5 V8 engine. A mighty feat by any estimation.
Yep , mine is a 4.5 liter , is not heavy & has plenty of power , very rare though 2088 cars with the 4.5 Hemi installed !!! will idle at 400 rpm & I get 26mpg on the freeway , way cool motor.
I just joined, so this is an old question, but i spent four years in England and had a pristine '64 2.5 liter Daimler Mk II. Actually, they were Jaguars with Daimler drive lines. I have never heard a prettier sounding engine. It had wrong side steering, but I brought it back to the states anyway (via 3 years in Italy). At the time I had a 57 Nomad, a 55 Del Ray coupe and 2 family cars, so I sold the Daimler to a Thai who wanted to take it home. The engine isn't all that strong, but it's music to listen to.
There are two Daimler powered midgets running with the Bay Cities Racing vintage group. I believe they have a website that shows them.
I have just found this thread whilst looking for an electronic ignition conversion for my Maj.Major special which we built 31 years ago .see pics attached .Bog standard engine mated to S type Jag overdrive box mounted on new cruciform, boxed chassis, limited slip diff ,3.01 ratio ,rack &pinion steering, lightened flywheel .Performs effortlessly and reliably .......21 mpg on the Motorway if you keep below 100mph !! Can anyone reccommend a reliable conversion without external boxes and wires ? Pertronic Ignitor from the US perhaps ? Mike
Engine is a little short for a highboy at least that's my opinion. I think it would be a good fit in a channeled A. I wonder if I could trade my FE for one?
heres mine (before i sold it) after i put a 3/71 blower on top, had a 4 speed manual, was awesome engine, extremely well designed, wasnt no dearer to rebuild than a sbc
Jim, although the 4.5l is 270 ci, the little 2.5l is only 150 ci. Limey Steve says the 4.5l is very rare, only 2088 installed. Modern 4cyls are in the 2.5l range. Definitely miniature. .
THANKS, Gary! You can SEE I'm not good at converting liters to cubic inches! LOL So this one is the SMALLER version, correct?
Hi Guys, Any idea where one could find a 4.5L for sale? My Dad is restoring his 2nd sp250 and would like to replace the standard 2.5 with the Majestic Major engine. I'm on a google search at the moment and your site popped up. Hope you don't mind! Thanks! Dan
The two are supposed to have the same bore spacing so the 2.5 can be enlarged to any size the 4.5 can reach. Finding such info on British engines is amazingly hard to get. One gent in the U.K. ran one as a AA/F, with up to 1,400 hp successfully so they are quite strong.
