Very sad news for sure. Dale is from the same town as my mom grew up and near where all my relatives on both sides of the family still live. I was able to hear stories about Dale from family members about things like how he had bought an old hospital in town and stored lots of his old bikes in the rooms. I visited his dealership many times as well as the museum a few times when it was still in Mt. Vernon. Praying for his family and friends.

Like others, I only knew Dale through television appearances and his own
program but I was impressed by his knowledge, liked his outlook on things
and apparent friendliness. He certainly seemed like someone you'd treasure
    as a friend.

Heartbreaking. I loved his show and appearances on others, he seemed like a genuinely great guy. Great museum and motorcycle historian, huge loss to the hobby. Prayers to his family.

    RIP Dale.

  6. Sad to hear. I only saw him on TV or You Tube and he had a charisma that would make you respect him and he would be the kind of person you would like to meet. May he rest in peace.

One of the few celebrity TV automotive, or motorcycle shows I really enjoyed. He was extremely knowledgeable, and very driven in his hobby! He will be missed.

  11. We were on our way to Pigeon Forge for the car show and decided to check out Wheels thru time since we we a day early, the weather was great and we were in my '32 roadster and as we were rolling in a guy was out in front of the building with a old harley w/t a side car, it turned out the be Dale.

He waved and we got out and walked over to introduced ourselves, he had a man's grip when he shook hands and a big smile on his face.

He said he liked my '32 and I ask him if he wanted to trade,he said not today and ask me if I had ever been to the museum in the past ,which I replied no and he said to go on in, I paid the admission and we started roaming around.

Having had a few panheads and a shouvlehead I was in Hog's Heaven, excuse the pun.

He had the most 45's I had ever seen.

After we spent a couple of hours we were read to leave and as we were going out we ran into Dale again, he ask if we enjoyed it which I responded we did and he encouraged us to come back again.

I have stopped by the museum every years since the first time and I have never seen Dale again, I did meet his son a couple of years ago.

I encourage everyone that likes motorcycles to visit the museum, there is also some pretty nice cars on display. HRP

  12. My riding buddy texted me about this yesterday afternoon. His passing breaks my heart. I bought two Harley-Davidson’s from him when he owned the dealership in Mt. Vernon Illinois. I was 21 when I bought my Ironhead XLH from him. He took the time to teach me a few things about the bike when I bought it. Ride In Peace Brother!

I didn't know him but did see him on several car/motorcycle related shows. He seemed extremely knowledgeable and full of energy. RIP

  15. Dale’s museum is a great place to visit. Enjoyed meeting him and getting to thank him for preserving all the bikes and memorabilia he had. He shook my hand and told me he never tired of hearing that. Cranked several of his bikes that day. Cancer sucks. Thanks to the good Lord and great doctors at Duke, I’m one of the lucky ones. RIP Dale.

My condolences to Dale's family and friends, he was an amazing man. The encyclopedic knowledge and unbridled passion that Dale had, made his show entertaining to watch.

Damn....Dale was the kind of guy that all of us want our friends to be. Huge hole in the hobby that won't soon be filled. Getting sick of this type of news coming more and more frequently.....losing a lot of great folks.

I had just retired from the Army when I went to his museum. We were talking about engines and he asked me what I did and he went out of his way to show me around; great fellow and we’ll miss him.

  22. I sent a picture to him through his museum web site of my Grand Dad's Indian and he replied back that it was a 1910 Indian Single. It shocked me that he would actually respond but as has been said he was very knowledgeable and liked to discuss his passion with anyone. I was an anyone to him and he took the time. Thank you again Sir and Godspeed.

He was a genuine guy, busy as hell but always had time to talk for a spell and always very respectful and polite. Here a few years back at the Davenport AMCA meet he took 5 minutes to talk to my son and I then gave my kid a ball cap from his museum. 0DB69A21-59FD-4979-B500-C654E50FFA2D.jpeg
Matt will continue with Dales work.

We are feeling the loss of Dale but his legacy lives on. I visited the museum in 2018 with my wife while on vacation. I introduced myself to Matt through a mutual friend and he was very friendly and took time to make us feel at home. If you have never been there, you have to go. This is a first class museum on 2 floors, with amazing dioramas and memorabilia collections. Many unique cars are on display as well. Words cannot express how much is there for you to experience. You will spend all day there and want to go back again to absorb what you missed the first time around. Here is a pic we took of Dale with his wife and son and Dale's favorite bike.
