I have this 53 ford with a 215, i got the timing, points, and dwell all nailed down, issue i got is that i have to have the choke on about half-way for any sorta throttle response and i did set the Air-Mixture to highest manifold vacuum. If i open the choke and set the idle a bit higher, the damn thing wants to back fire with no throttle response. I know the carb is a Holley 1904 Single ****er that i recently rebuilt. I want to get this car done for Latimore, so i really need some help ASAP PS carb is jetted to factory specs. Art
Take a look at the gasket between throttle body and middle section. These blow out - actually in - occasionally and you end up with a vacuum leak which causes lean running.
might also check the choke and throttle plates for bent/gap... plenty of room for vacuum issues on a 1904 holley... might even ditch the 1904 and go with a 847 holley or the autolite single
