    If the car was sold out of state the vin might still be in the system. Just because Cali doesn’t keep them doesn’t mean everyone dumped the smog exempt cars. Just a thought.

    Most states dump the records after the car has not had new tags purchased for a period of time. My state, Mn, its 7 years. It used to be if you had an old paper registration , what you get when you buy plates, that was enough to get new title no matter how old if its in your name. Now, thats no good and they consider it no record after 7 years period. So, Dan's car records would depend on what state it went to sleep in

    The problem is no one has the VIN.

    The car went from California to Wisconsin, then to Indiana, and who knows where
