I have a DANA 44 with a Power Lok (limited slip) differential. The cross bar section that holds the spider gears has a 2 piece pin holding it together (that is ***embled correctly) which allows the crossbars approx. 7/16" gap when separated. However, when I put the axle shafts into the Power Lok it seems that axle shaft to axle shaft it is about 3/8" too long but it fit in the non limited slip differential. Is there a reason for the gap between the shafts that hold the spider gears? The parts that hold them together seem to be ***embled correctly with no gap between them. Is it that the shafts need to be shortened equal amounts on each side, or is there a different piece that holds the spider gear crossbars together and I have the wrong one?
I ***embled this rear end last year put 1 axle in the other axle seemed too long so I cut approz. 3/8" off of it. Went to the HAMB Drags and spun the splines off of the shortened axle because it didn't have enough penetration in the spider gear as the other side. WTF am I doing wrong or am I missing something? PLEASE help.

Did not mix match diff parts. The rearend was setup as per the book. the shims are only for the carrier section. It is a semi- floating axle with bearings on the end of the shafts. I measured from the flange to flange, then set the axle on the ground, then the carrier on top then the other axle on top and that is where the measurements came from. Too long! but the ****on in the middle of the locker is the difference in the width. Is the ****on that the axle shaft,s **** against suposed to have the extra slop in it for a purpose so the cross bars can move with the spider gears on it or is it screwed up????????
