I am a lucky guy. I have good friends and good family..... I get to spend alot of time with my dad.... as most dad's do, he drives me crazy.... but I wouldn't have it any other way....

I owe everything to him, he is the biggest influence in my life and I've idolised him since I was a little kid. I wanna be just like my dad.

My passion for Hot Rods and Music is all because of him.....its really all I know.

A couple of years ago we had a party for his 60th birthaday, it was all good friends and family.... it was a pretty good party.... haha The highlight was when I gave him this roadster..... I had found the body and had enough parts to mock it up..... we took donations torward the car instead of gifts and he was able to get most of what he needed for it....

So basically the car, as a project, was given to him from friends and family.

It's a neat old hot rod I found in PA its all leaded etc......

He was shocked and excited..... it took a couple of months for him to realise it was really his and then he dove into it....... money is tight for him, but he has done well..... chroming everything he can..... one piece at a time....
He is completely obsessed with this car.

After going to the round up last year he decided that he had to take it this year..

Its was a battle, but its going to make it!!!!!

I am so happy and proud of him I can't even tell you.

I think he figured it would be completely finished..... shiney paint and all..... but its not, its in primer .....Me and Johnny talked him into using white primer..... he thinks it looks too much like paint and doesn't want anyone to think its finshed..... It will be the purple on the grill shell when done.

The headers are really cool..... we used flathead oil canisters for collectors.

    40 merc dash......

The motor is a 50 olds........... and its tragic. Its an old Hot rod motor that was in a 39 merc..... we took it all apart inspected and re gasketed it and it looked great inside, but it needs a rebuild..... after a couple days and nights of messing with it...... (its 5:00 in the morning and I just got home!) we finally got it to run OK..... but it has a bunch of blow by and is kind of smoky....

BUT, it runs enough so he can drive it a little..... and even If I have to tow it in behind my 34 truck.... ITS GOING TO THE SHOW!!!!!!

So anyway, its still rough around the edges........ the body is just roughed in and now we need to rebuild the motor, but damnit he's proud. the over all look of the cars is really cool...... it kind of looks like a Weesner drawing, but the funny thing is, my dad probably has no idea who the Keith Weesner is... haha

It will get blown apart for finishing soon...

So if you see my dad at the Round Up, stop and say hello........ he's the coolest guy I know...

Special thanks to all who helped make this possible... especially jonny

That is cool. My old man is the one who got me started with classic cars as well. And yes he still drives me nuts but I wouldn't have it any other way either. I remember at the age of 7 being his parts washer and having my own pair of coveralls. To this day the smell of a solvent tank takes me back. Thats cool that you could do that for your dad.

You are very lucky to have that kind of relationship with your dad. And your dad is lucky to have that kind of relationship with you. That's great and his roadster is way cool as well.

Last time we talked you said you guys were hoping to have it ready the night before you had to leave for the Round up. Way to go you finished early and now you maybe can sleep for your trip. It looks great!!! I think Chris is still sleep deprived from picking that body up in PA. When he sees this he will know that it was all worth it. Can't wait to see it in Austin. Tell your dad congrats and see all the Aceholes at the Round up.

That just plain rocks. It's too bad about 50 million other kids don't have dads like yours. Nice story, nice car.

Bob, Many Happy Returns for your Dad breaking the "60" barrier. When Chuck and I were there last May his roadster was in mock up mode. I hope he gets to really enjoy driving the reoadster at the Round Up ! Looking forward to seeing it when you guys finish it !
