When I purchase the car right around Thanksgiving to 2018, the car had a Carter AFB competition carburetor, I believe it was 600 CFM. I had the carburetor rebuilt and it was okay. I always had a flat spot off the line. I had read many great things about The new Edelbrock avs2 carburetor. Finally, I purchased a new one, chrome finish and I had to upgrade to a 650. I played around with an insulating spacer but after talking to friends in Southern California and Texas I learned most people don't use one. I had to make some modifications to the throttle cable assembly, bought a New throttle cable bracket from Lokar which really cleaned up the look. What a simple install that was and how amazing it runs now. With the old Carter I used to have to pump it multiple times and crank the engine, now it just fires right up. I wish I had done right away. I do have the spun aluminum air cleaner on it right now but I do have a chrome 10-in which I may put back on. I'm also looking to maybe go with a 1970s style close air cleaner with dual snorkels.
Great to see you and the A back. If you move the coil, I think you could use a 14” diameter air cleaner. Just a thought, Carp.
So is this the Danny Brent that built the car or someone that bought it? I remember seeing ink in the mags after this car was featured that he built a couple of 36’s. Very nice cars also. Did you keep this A under wraps for all these years? I lusted after this Model A when I first saw it. Everything about it was spot on. Good to see that it still lives.
Thank you for that idea, I have the stock fuel tank location which interferes but I also do have the coil, that's a good idea
No, my name is Kurt. I purchased the car in late 2018 just before Thanksgiving. My goal was to get it to the 2019 model a exhibit at the Grand national roadster show. Of all the cars they were looking for in the different magazines, the sedan was the only one to arrive at the show. I talked to Danny on a regular basis. He's doing great, his wife did pass away and he's no longer building complete cars. Now he will buy a car, do a couple things on it and quickly flip it. It's in his blood, it's something he'll do until he's gone. We have the car at building 9 of the roadster show in 2019. Plus we took it to the Western Nationals and Bakersfield that year. I've also taken it to many smaller events and have been at the Grand national every year with a car. Next year I hope to take it to gathering at the Rock in Oklahoma and a couple other events outside of the area. My goal has been to keep the original appearance of the car even with 50 years of paint. That was buffed out too much, chips and nicks and bad repairs. The engine is sound, compression is good, I'm not modifying the engine at all besides the carburetor. . I will have the transmission upgraded but this year we will also fix the rotted windshield and the damaged front apron. Thank you for your post and question
Glad to see that the car is in good hands, one of the best 28-29’s ever done IMHO. Also good to hear Danny Brent is doing well too. He had an eye for a well put together hot rod for sure.
