That was the original plan but i went with a modern GM silver called “switchblade silver” it’s a bit brighter than cortez silver. i had a silverado that color and i loved it. It wears dirt well
The lower black is on, inside the trunk was painted. It’s almost like it’s in paint jail at this point
WOW the 80’s monte carlo SS box used to be the upgrade box but since those are scarce now the jeep box has become the one to use. The rebuilder listed them under the same part number even. With the upgraded box you get a quicker ratio and much better road feel instead of the “one pinky” over assisted stock steering.
A mutual friend has been helping the painter and (presumably) using a cattle prod to get things going again. It may actually get paint real soon.
Beautiful! Are we talking MS or PS? By the time of the '83-88 MCSS(and like GM sport models) PS was standard. This really shouldn't be a scarce part at all. 1978-1988 A/G and 1982-1992 F bods equipped with F41 suspension came with the 12.7 ratio 'quick steer' box. On top of the box there will be an 'XH' mark(as in marker mark, not stamping) on top of the box. If dirty greasy, you will need to carefull wipe the top off to see. A/G cars will have a larger front sway bar 1-1/8 or 1-1/4, with a rear sway bar, and frame reinforcement braces on the front horns, that look like \ / when looking under the front. V8 non F41 cars also sported the \ / bars but not always. F body F41 cars with 16x8(GTA/IROC) wheel option will have limiters to reduce steering angle due to the wider wheels/tires. I *think* those boxes were marked 'WS' or 'SW' to indicate limiters. Those steering boxes may be scarce, but the F41 quick ratio 'XH' box could be had in anything. Not sure what boxes were used in the 2wd S series or the B bods of the era, but I suspect that 'XH' box was an option.
Very true. I used a new (rebuilt, I'm sure) '95 Jeep Cherokee power steering box in my '66 Impala. Everything Scotty T said.
I’m talking about power steering. My understanding of the G body steering boxes is that most of them had the 605 (with round top) box and the better box (4 bolt top) came on performance versions. Those better boxes/cars haven’t been in the bone yards here in the rust belt for a long time. My research shows that the G body and grand cherokee boxes have the same physical dimensions and steering stops as the A bodies along with the better characteristics. The rebuilder i bought my box from listed the MC SS and the G cherokee box as one and the same. The majority of my info came from the “chevelles.com” forum. They have quite a bit of info on the forum on this topic. As much as i love/loved scrounging the bone yards for parts those days are about over around here. That’s why i went the rebuilt box route
Wish me luck i’m hauling the 427/muncie to the shop to install before final paint and assembly of front sheet metal. I hope it doesn’t get stranded there
I had the 64 wagon in the early/mid 70's, they were not really very well known even then. Somewhere I have the reply from GM when I requested production numbers. As I recall it had the number breakdown for the two years, 1964/65 with six cylinder and V8 engines.
I would love to find a buildable 2 door wagon like that. The wife might not ever ride with me again. But I could make that work.
