The 29 Model A coupe does not have much of a dash board The front cowl is made up of the gas tank and what a person might call a dash which is not usable for gauges or much of anything. What can I use for a dash?.Is there another car's dash that would fit without too much fabrication or a rod shop that sells one specifically of the 29 Model A Coupe? Gene
I put a dash from a 1941 GMC pickup in my 1927 coupe could be close to the same. Also check out "the Mother of All Dash Thread". It has some great ideas. Someone could post a link to it from here.I would but I suck at computers. I don't even have a build thread of my own car!
Several companies sell a 32 style dash that fits below the stock dash rail. Brookville Roadster has them for around $150, I have one in my 30 Sport Coupe.
Here's my 32 type dash in my 30 coupe. They make a nice clean looking dash. 000_2087 by Jakesrocks posted Jul 21, 2014 at 10:33 AM
There is an early dash listed in the classified, it is from a 29 Chevy, pretty nice looking dash, oval for gauges too, you might take a look
Here is the link for the dash here on the HAMB.....I have one just like it...... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1930s-dash.946977/
34 Chevy MAster dash. Picked because of glove compartment and matching insturment area. Fairly easy install in a 30 coupe. Canuck sorry don't have a later picture or with gauges, indicator lights and stainless trim strips
I'm using the stock dash in my '28 Sedan. I cut out the bottom of the tank to gain access to the back side of the dash. Here's a picture-heavy thread showing how I did it: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/28-tudor-highboy-sitrep-1.222387/ And here's what it looks like (before drilling holes for gauges):
Keep in mind how the ventilation system is designed to work on Model A's. When the windshield is open, the air flows through the slots behind the upper dash down the front of the dash. It works really well.
You can fit SW gauges in a stock '29 panel. Here is one I used in my T along with a pic of a Brookville '32 type panel we are putting in a friend's '29. It will get a SW Ensign panel.
I cut out the stock fuel gauge to put this auburn copy in. The bottom line of the tank flows perfectly into the base of the auburn panel visually. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I cut a 49 ford dash down for my old 29 sedan. When I sold the sedan, I kept the dash and installed it in a 33 ford pickup with no changes in width.
. 36 ford dash in 29 coupe. We sliced to flatten it then had to shorten about an inch Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I narrowed this one a few inches and it fit nicely... Room for gauges and a glove box that I hade to make a new door for.
If you are not going to use the stock tank, which I wouldn't, you can fit 3 gauges and the stock speedometer in the stock dash panel. I like the '29 dash panel, so I used it.
I don't know the source but here's an aftermarket (I think) steel dash panel that's in my '29 Coupester. It covers a tubing framework for stiffness and is designed to be removable with just two screws, one on either end. It's clean, functional and very attractive in my opinion...but then, it's my car. Switches and other junk run vertical below and forward of the panel. Whoever did this installation was right on!
It took a bit of whacking, but I like the way an old `52 Chevy dash fit into my `30 coupe. Stripes by Von Franco.
So do you want to keep the fuel tank or are you going to cut it out? If you cut it out, the 38-39 dashes work out nice, only a little trimming at the ends and you get a glove box. But, that dash Rich B. posted with the SW gauges in it looked sooo-good!!
