  7. I would think there would be more from aftermarket vendors.

What about OEM , maybe they say power and economy ?

And what's it meant to be hooked to? Or how would it work.

  15. OK, us geezers always have a story. When I was in high school, one of the guys in my cl*** had an Olds like the picture above. Sitting at a stop light on Western ave in L.A. he was getting set for a race. Had the engine revved up in N (for not yet) and when the light changed, he pulled her down into L (for Launch) but hit R (for race) in his excitement. Needless to say, the guy behind him failed to see the humor in the event.

    According to Brother Dave Gardner; (my favorite comedian, (rip)); N=nuthin' , L=leap, Dr=drag, & R=race! :D .

  17. I know of a situation where the driver owned an Olds with a trans like the one pictured, unfortunately he was driving his brothers Ford. The good news was that no one was hurt when he put his front bumper against the counter in the little drive in he was showing off in front of. Big difference between reverse and low! LOL

I have a 700R4 in my driver, it has a Starshifter:rolleyes: which I hate with a p***ion. I have a strong preference for gate type shifters, but Turbo Action doesn't make any 700R4 compatible shifters. Maybe making one would be a good winter project! Do any tech inspectors give you grief about the little tab for reverse lock-out?

No tech inspector has said anything about it. In fact, they've never even asked for a NSS demonstration in this one, that I can recall. I don't feel I'm getting my money's worth out of tech inspections. But I did make sure the car meets all the published NHRA safety rules. As long as it doesn't try to run nines again!

and the reverse lockout works great, it only took me a few hours to figure out how to make it.

    :D
I was thinking about using something like this
    http://www.grainger.com/product/INN...m/rp/s/is/image/Grainger/3JDF8_AS01?$smthumb$
to build a lockout for an old quick click. I had found a similar 1/4 turn locking pin, where you could retract it, turn it 1/4 turn and the pin would stay back, but its in my favorites on my old computer. That would be really handy, then you could pull the reverse lock-out back and it wouldn't be in the way when you are just putting around.

    That could work.

One thing I like about my home made shifter, is that the only parts I spent money on were the heim ends for the linkage, and the knob. Total around $25. I had the other materials left over from other projects, or scavenged them. The huge old microswitch I used for the NSS is from an old jukebox, my brother gave it to me.

I really like the idea of the spring loaded pin with the T-handle. It's not necessary by any means, I just kinda like the idea of having a visual indicator. I was going to orient it so that the t-handle is vertical with the lock-out closed, and horizontal open. Must be my millwright background showing through...
I have a micro-switch just like that on the lever of my starshifter, for locking the converter clutch. Its positioned so that with your hand resting on the shifter T handle, you can close it with your pinky finger.

Can I see a pic of your shifter from the other side, down low?

PS: after I posted this pic, I started thinking about the ***le of the thread. JMO, but a receiver welded to the frame rail for a door bar says "street/race" louder than any switch ever could...:p;)
