That gap is for ventilation and it seems as the Windshield frame may hide it so leaving it functional may help move air around even in light of the loss of tilting OEM option...

You may not be referencing what I'm thinking of...if so my apologies...

You’re probably right, again, I haven’t looked in a model A in ages. I just saw the gap above the dash to the cowl.
Hell, I have anxiety issues putting a hole in a dash for a different gauge;)

He will certainly have to fair in the top of the dash to the upper dash rail and being a Roadster I'm not sure if they had the opening to allow airflow my Coupe has...

If Brian has a need for a heater he may want to utilize venting up there for a defrost...it is a Roadster though and if there's no top does it make defrosting redundent?

There is no gap, the dash fits snug against the dash rail. I’ll put fender welt between the two panels.

The dash will probably be body color, which is probably going to be a dark maroon. Or, I may wood grain it, or, the car may be black, I don't know. I have a half hide of embossed leather, a full black hide, and 3/4 of a lipstick red hide. If I paint it maroon, it'll get the black leather and embossed (western style) which is a saddle color, if it's black it'll get the red hide with the ebossed as inserts in the seat and doors. Wood graining would look nice with if the car is burgundy, might be too much contrast if it's black.
