while not exactly “ cool “ I used 2 marrette wire connectors as radio knobs in my 69 Lincoln. Car was missing one knob and these threaded in perfectly . Didn’t look to bad up against a black dash either .
The shift knob is a 34 Ford Expo knob that I smoothed the sides of (it was ribbed like a quarter) and had it hyrdo-dipped with the banjo wheel at Julianos. They clear coated the entire knob so the patina of the coin is protected.
Old Bakelite radio knobs come in a lot of shapes. you can make your own laminated plastic knobs easy enough. It used to be a standard shop project in high school. Pick your own colors and shape. cabinet knobs are made in lots of shapes. Too.
