Can anyone tell me a rough date when my 30A Coupe was made, I don't have the engine and can't see a chassis number. All I can see is 9566 on the front crossmember of the subrails infront of the seat and A (-or 4)1426 (- or A) B0 (B or 8) 2 on the spare tire carrier.Should there be some markings on the gas tank?

    Thanks
    Jim

The serial number is under the body, driver side (left).
You need to have this number, to tell you exactly, when the car was made.

  4. `28-`29's had a date stamped on the drivers side of the gas tank upside down....i believe that was the date it was assembled..could be wrong. don't know about 30-31

as far as i know , the numbers you have will do no good , you need the VIN number on the frame on the drivers side right behind the first body mount hole. you have to remove the body to see it. the engine was stamped with the number , then when it was installed in the frame THAT number was stamped on the frame. i understand you have no engine

once you get that number , go here: http://www.mafca.com/ . then click on "references" , then "model A engine production"...then check your number

that is how it it here in the USA....i'm not sure about there

As 36-3window said, the only way to identify your build date is locate the car #(VIN). which is located on the top of the frame between the first cowl bolt and the second body attachment bolt..........................to do this you will have to take the body off the frame.
The numbers on the crossmembers, or the tank, or the spare carrier do not give you the build date.

If you car is a 1930...........the number should fall in between some of these.
Usually, there is a star before and after the number................

    January 2742696..............2826649
    Feburary 2826650..............2940776
    March 2940777..............3114465
    April 3114466..............3304703
    May 3304704..............3509306
    June 3509307...............3702547
    July 3702548................3771362
    August 3771363...............3883888
    September 3883889...............4005973
    October 4005974...............4093995
    November 4093996................4177733
    December 4177734................4237500

    Good Luck.

Do you know where your car was originally built? If American, the answers are fairly easy.
If British...I don't think Model A engines were made there until 1931-32...
engine would then presumably be of Canadian origin, completely different set of serial numbers?? Serial would date engine build, and would be way off car build date if shipped to GB. American build dates can be very close to engine or months off, depending on plant...

The 9566 number on the body crossmember means it was the 9566th of that body style made at that particular manufacturing plant during that year. But it won't tell you the year, or the date of manufacture.

Is there a letter near that 9566 number? It would indicate the plant location.

American frame will have serial on left frame rail, almost always beneath body rail in general latitude of rear engine mount.
