Dave did the art for Back to the 50's t shirts for quite awhile, I was sad to hear he had passed. I quit buying t shirts after that, just not as cool. I'd love to have a book of his art.

I only had a couple of oppertunities to talk to Dave back in my Street Rodder mag days. He was considerably older than Mike C. and myself but always gave us plenty of encouragement. Just a really nice guy. I remember one piece of advice he gave me was ; "Never make your artwork too busy"... That was pretty funny.:D

Yes, a little tweaking goes a long way...

    Hello,

Peter Max, for those that are not from the time period, was a fantastic artist and designer. During the time period of the early 60s, his work was well known and the products were placed all over different design stores as “classic” art work made into everyday home goods. His artwork delved into all sorts of colorful designs and a lot of people thought he was a little high, when his latest art design came out.

For us, our wedding gifts from our parents was a complete set of Peter Max dishes, dinner plates, low bowls and 4 mugs for our “large” portions of coffee at the time. There in the same package was a set of 4 silverware designs items to go along with the designer Peter Max dining set. Those stainless steel knives, forks, dessert forks, and small spoons+ large soup spoons are still in the rotation to this day.

A set of 4 place settings, still in a storage box from our wedding gifts… used for 40 years, now resting in a storage box for???

Our son grew up using those plates, bowls and silverware items until he left for college. Then as we grew older, the silverware stayed in the daily use drawer and the plate set was replaced with newer items. But, the old 1960s set is still waiting to show our son and granddaughter many years later, what we used in the “old days…” Our usage daily when she stayed with us from 6 months to pre teen years, provided her with some thoughts in art and what we were like as college kids, too…YRMV

    Note:

As a toddler to teen, our son did not use the larger mug. He had his own collection, but yet the last remaining Peter Max items are still waiting their return to daily usage…

This classic poster always reminded us of that time period when folks thought of us a “way out there…” but, we all marched to “a different drummer”… YRMV

    Hey @jnaki
I certainly remember just how powerful the artwork and designs by Peter Max were and still are.
One of my prize possessions is a very cool Peter Max book of paper airplanes, that I bought at a swap meet years ago for a $1.00, I still have it.

I was equally impressed by his contributions to the classic older Levis Commercials from that time period as well.
Thanks from Dennis for sharing those designs by Peter Max.

Curious; who was first, Dave Deal or Dave Bell?
