If this is the car I think it is, Dave sent me pictures of it in bare metal back around 2002, after he had formed the steel roof.

He was a true hot rodder who loved imaginative hot rods with classic lines.

Dave was also one hell of a nice guy. We had several lengthy conversations about some classic hot rods that we both loved. His enthusiasm and his small ego make his passing that much more of a loss.

A true craftsman-------------the coolest thing was he had no ego whatsoever. Many people owe him for the "look" their car has.We have lost another one who made a huge impact. All the best to his family.

Bo Jone's car was different in several ways, and was on the cover of R&C October 1968.

Could you have the cars mixed up?

Found myself thinking about Dave Gale recently.
I remember his well executed version of the Neil East version of the Doane Spencer 32. . IMG_0654.PNG
Well it's been nearly 10 yrs. since Dave's been gone, but how can one forget such a talented hot rodder?
I've seen his work for years. It's timeless....

Did not know that he built the scalloped track T, as I also saw that for years, with Bo Jones right behind it at theThrottlers Picnic, ( Thank's Steve & Keith the for the insight).
I bought a Bo Jones modified that the he (Bo) started to build , but passed on to Don Small, I've had it for years. Still not done.....
    Dave, Job Well Done!!!!!!!

The first Bo Jones 27 modified was orange/red,(1968). The second 27 modified was white and red, and was believed to be built by Bo, but it seems like Dave Gale originally built it! I have a video I taped off of tv where Bo is telling Gray Baskerville how he constructed it! Then they took it for a ride....cool video.

See that guy on the right of Bill Vinther, That's Bo Jones, this is the modified that I own. It was being set up for a 4.3L V6 and a Turbo 350-10 bolt Rear End.
It seriously looks like that red scalloped version that Dave Gale built as a yellow trackster wearing a turtledeck back in the 70's.
    IMG_0667.JPG So here's the Bo version above. IMG_0680.JPG IMG_0679.JPG
I believe this one is the Dave Gale version changed...
IMG_0671.JPG And Bo's tank situation and spring mounting Above. IMG_0674.JPG IMG_0675.JPG
    Dave's rear end set up.

So this is the Bo Jones when I was shooting it in around 99-2000. IMG_0663.JPG

So it's like this now on hold. I went out and pulled a 4.3 Core Engine, have the Turbo 350 driveshaft. Really not comfortable with using a 80's-90's,so while talking to Bo, he said that he'd done quite a few of these. The one that he sold to Don Small he said he was using parts that he had, that included the power train.
I asked if he had the opportunity, if he'd have used a Chevy II again??? He he said that if he had one, he'd have used that in it. So when one came up, I bought 3. ;).
So that's what we're going to do, put it in-in time...
After the Waske Effect is done.....

I will add that these Modifieds have been impressed in my brain for years, I don't believe that they get the recognition that the deserve. There is a bunch thought into a build such as this. I know that they're not traveling rides, but they are cool lil slot cars...

Thanks for posting the pics.....Modifieds are built with a minimal amount of parts, but putting one together is quite the challenge. The 26-27 T's have a little more foot box room than the earlier T's, but putting 10 lbs. in a 5 lb. bucket keeps you thinking. Fun to build and fun to drive.

    Is Bo still around?
