I received a call today that set me back a little,... One of my favorite old friends and REAL HOT ROD guy Dave Lukkari p***ed away,... As far back as I can remember Dave has been a part of the Detroit area Hot Rod scene,...

I would usually see him at least once a year as he made his way back from California to Michigan for a few summer events,.. and to spend time with his ol' Hot Rod pals,.. He would call me from time to time at exactly 5:00 am,.. talk for exactly one hour and say,... well I gott'a go,.... talk to you later,.. and that would be the end.

Dave built a Crosley with a Ardun powered Flathead & Model A fenders,.. A combination that sounds like a total mess,... But Dave pulled it off like the master he was.

Well,... the world of Hot Rodding just got a little dimmer today,.. as it seems to go every time one of the ol' time Hot Rod pals p*** away,....

Goodbye Dave,... you have no idea how much you'll be missed,... but, you will never be forgotten,... God speed my friend.

Goddammit! Another great guy - gone! I first met Dave at the NSRA Nats in Memphis when he drove down from Michigan in that Ardun-powered Crosley with Model A fenders. He drove it in the gymkana and whomped the piss out of it. He convereted the carbs from gas to alcohol and just smoked the tires off that thing. He then converted it back to gas and drove everywhere, including back home. I was impressed to say the least. I last saw Dave at one of the Pomona Swap meets. He came down from the high dessert to have a look around and say hi to his old pals.

    He will be missed...

Sad news indeed. Dave was a prince, a real gentleman and amb***ador for hot rodding. My love for Arduns grew when he gave me a ride in his modified.

Dave was a neat guy. He is the guy that stopped to help me when we were on our way to the fall mountain run many years ago and had some trouble. Stayed with us until we were back on the road. He was driving his little blue Studebaker coupe at that time but I have some pictures of his crosley around here somewhere. I haven't seen him in years but will always remember him. He was the real deal. RIP

This is terrible news another true pioneer is gone. Dave is in a better place now... I'm sure he's talking with Zora Arkus Duntov and George Kudash about his ARDUN.

So sorry to hear the bad news. I got to meet Dave back in the 70's when the NSRA held the Mini Nats in Detroit. Actually got to take a ride in that Crosley once too. A cool car and a really nice guy. A loss to us all. RIP Dave
