Dave, we are going to the Fallout. Not sure what we are taking or what time we are leaving NH. Probably staying over in CT to see family etc...
Not sure about the Gathering yet though. It will be a last minute decision.

The carnage from The Hot rod fallout CT hasnt been good to me on the way home this year :) So i did all that work earlier this summer and i couldnt find a U-joint and was going to get one well i forgot and guess what yup it had enough after 50+ years :D It also didnt help that the spring mount bent and pinion angle went up and is not right so i have a dilema and have to fix the rear spring mounts and trailing arm mounts aswell. But it has to be fixed right cause it just keeps breaking other stuff when i fix 1. heres a pic of u-joint i will post pic of pinion angle and rear spring.

Dave, I have been thinking about that since Saturday night. Yes, you showed the rear spring hangers at an angle, at the show, and I also spotted the very poor angle on the rear joint.

..but I still can't understand how the rear end rotated enough to change the u-joint angle that much, unless the rear trailing arms bent at the rear axle tubes?

Something must have moved, besides just the spring hangers? That's my best guess. I really think the arms bent near the rear end.

Also thinking about how best to redo the rear end setup, without really changing the build. That won't be easy.

You could skip using an true X member in the center, only if you went fully boxed rails, and added a good center crossmember to mount the front of the trailing arms. I don't like that idea, though, as I don't think it is strong enough for your needs.

I'd prefer a true X member like 33-48 had, but that will be a big job, and trying to fit it around the B&M trans, and leave room for mufflers... not easy

and somehow, you need to get the front of the trailing arms close together.

I have been watching the stress cracks on the front lower right rear quarter, and I don't think they got any worse since springtime, but maybe they are.

Old pic from this springtime. If you look at it, it seems like the pinion angle was wrong even back then? Look at the pinion shaft compared to the trailing arm angle.

I don't know for sure, pics can be decieving.

Idk what happened but i replied to this and it didnt show up??So here it goes again.

The pinion was at a bad angle when i put it together earlier this summer but not as bad as it is now. Maybe the u-joint going bad and the fact that 1 side of the spring mount did seem to bend that would allow pinion to change. Now that being said I also noticed the spring bushings are all pushing out and are binding. There is no way it moved at the rear end and trailing arms trust me it would have ripped the rear housing apart or trailing arms apart.

I to am havig trouble on what to do to try and keep the rear and arms as close as i can to the priginal build as i said to you its not as easy as doing one thing. IE i would have to lower car, raise car shorten rear. etc 1 thing changes everything. I wanted to lower the rear of car but it will take away from the original build..

I want to box frame and put a X in no matter what people may say or think its almost a must as the car will destroy itself with the amount of driving i do with it. The body has cracked on the right side by the bottom of 1/4 and rear of door and gotten alot worse.

I still am not sold on the trailing arms being moved to the center of the car my racecar and street cars all have parallel arms.. again i just dont know

Well, you need some more input from other guys here.

Even with your frame flexibility, it still tore out one front trailing arm mount a month or so ago.

If you beef the chassis, I am positive that rear arm setup will break somewhere else. Right now, the frame is twisting a bit as one rear wheel goes up or down on a body roll. That's why the body is cracking.

With no crossmembers in between the front and rear springs, it sure is twisting.

Get some more ideas from others here.

I agree I jacked the RR wheel up 10 inches tonight and the LR stayed on ground as suspected, But i did hear and see the frame and body creak (my flex) Now to come up with a plan thta will work... Also Frank with hte trans mounted to the frame sold that must tie in chassis some? But ik its probably not good cause it could shear the bolts at trans or frame if its working that much and ik we both suspect that it is. Going to have to research and think about this a bit, or i could trailer it everywhere and just happy to be there hell i already got the chairs just need a umbrella:D :D:D

  29. I've been watching this thread a while and gotta say this car found the right owner. Damn, you've been driving it, dragging it and breaking it. All the while making it better without taking it away from it's roots.

    Good on you!
