That's the dual range Hydramatic, mid 50s it must be, as my early 56 I just got is the same R55 code. Hamb says these are the ones like B&M used. My 56 tailshaft housing is about 10.5 inches long, just the casting. It's a 4 speed.

Check the cast raised number right on the head above the center exhaust port. I can find a list of more, but 10 is 56, 8 is 55, and 7 is 54.(these are the 324's) I looked at your old Olds motor on the classifieds, and that one was a lower number, so it was 303.

Too hot to go check my 55 and 56 rear end numbers...but i maybe can remember to take a pic of my offset wheels..will I forget when I go in the shop? It's a tad bit warm. But it's cooler in there, than here in the house.

edit: here are pics of the Studebaker 16" wheels. I should have cleaned off the dust because it makes the shape of the center look wrong. I think you can see that these tuck under a 32 fender all the way. I need to weld up 3 hubcap clip holes on the dome.

General Gow We`ll have to see if i can make the time for a open house it would be great to see you guys.

F&J I don`t think there is a number on the heads i looked for that long ago and got nothing. The guy i got car from says it has some kind of shift kit in it he says you shift it like a std.. Sounds like fun to me cant wait:D As for the wheels i am still thinking about what to do with them, Leave them alone and get new tires or just put some new wheels on. It has old recap cheater slick now but they have some cuts in them as i said before from sitting on flats. I am not having a good time with this computer i cant upload the pix from my camera that some of you want to see and idk how to load them from my Iphone to computer or the hamb. I am going to head over to work on Jake.I need to get some seat foam does anybody know where to get some i googled it but didnt see anything.

Well I got a update for you guys i got some parts today Air scoops, couple nuts and bolts etc from the HOT ROD COMPANY here on HAMB. So i fiddled with them and carbs, I need to do some more tinkering with them. So i decided to pull the door latch on the PS it was sticking needed a good cleaning. I found the spring broke as usual My friend Sheldon knew this and sent me a good used 1, everything was great until i went to put the latch back together and i went to bend the tabs over to lock it together and 1 on each side cracked :mad: So now i have to find one of these probably going to be expensive right... I think he told me to use a little heat to bend these tabs and i forgot until after. So here`s some pics if you have this piece let me know thanks. Its coming along good hope to have it running by the weekend!!

The throttle shaft extention could flex being brass..I like using stainless steel, much stronger..
I don't know for sure if the plenum is open so you can make progressive linkage..Remember, use the bases only so you can see the throttle plates move..

Dave some info you did not ask for :)

The trans you have is a 4 speed "hydro". It does not have a park position. I don't know if the guy marked the shift pattern on the shifter. All the way one way should be Neutral, all the way opposite should be Low. There probably is no neutral saftey switch, so maybe put the rear up on stands before you try to start it.

I can't tell if your Edelbrock is 303 or 324 port size, or what your heads are. I kind of think you said no number, so it should be 303 heads with small ports. You should measure the height of the ports to get the right gaskets. I think it's 1-3/4 to 1-7/8 for 324 and 1-5/8 for 303.

    If you use a 324 intake on a 303, use 54-56 324 gaskets. A 303 intake on a 303 needs 303 gaskets; those are 49-53.

Trans link from carb: There should be a bell crank on the drivers rear water port cover on the head. One link goes down to the trans, and one short link goes to the carb. You need that trans link hooked up and adjusted properly to get the trans to work correctly.

If you are pushing for Milltown, you might want to consider the single carb because the linkage is already set up. If the top cover gasket is good and not shrunk, you probably don't need a carb kit for now. The accel pump should be leather, just soak it in gas or atf, it will work fine.

F&J Thanks for the Info I appreciate it i can use it to rference what i have come up with myself. My 135 HP 265 flbs of torque 303 324 ?? is kinda a embarrassment for me to be running,(My friend said to me man you will have the slowest Hot Rod around and you have a Motor shop)
Theres no pattern marked.. I can figure that out. But thats why i want brakes to many things to go wrong. I will start it on lift and go through everything, I hope the tranny and motor are good its been alot of work already getting this thing ready to run. They are small port heads the number on the heads are 555644 and do say 324 havent looked up the #`s yet. I dont have any linkage for tranny other than the shifter looks like maybe there could be some place for what you are talking about. I guess this is why the previous owner said he shifted it like a std and it had a shift kit in it. The 4bbl and intake has been removed and i am close to having the 4x2 linkage set up done or atleast to get it going. Milltown is the next show so i was shooting for it but idk yet, I could trailer but i need to get afew things done and idk if i want to trailer it I want to drive it :D:D. And people will want to hear it run so if it runs i will drive it :D.

Scottv it`s ok to hate me but once you get to know me you will like me! ;) Your day will come be ready for it. This find has changed my attitude for the better.

Stromberg97 I will be talking with you soon.

    UPDATES ON CAR

I got all the brake parts in and on the car finally! I got the linkage for the 4x2 set up close to being done. I got the PS door all back together it works great. I was just looking at it after i broke the tabs and i said i`m not paying $200.00 for a new assembly when all i need to do is tach weld 4 small tachs on the piece that was broke and wallaaaaa its better than henry`s way. I need to do the DS but thats not a priority right now. Tied up some wireing and fixed some of it aswell. Cleaned the interior again it is filthy. I also ajdusted the back window it was sagging and cut kinda short and had a gap in one corner. I removed the door glass as it was broke and i am putting new glass in. I still need to get a chance to work on radiator but not feeling that right now... shouldnt be a big deal just need to be in the right frame of mind if you know what i mean. I am forgetting some stuff i am sure but i wanted to reply to you guys and Ik you like the updates as i do on your builds. I am looking for original floor piece under the seat for my 32 mine is good i just need under the driver side pan piece.

Update I made the bottom outlet for radiator that was rotted out they used some water pipe or something?? Sam said it always leaked.. I hope to have it done later today. I got the intake and carbs on I got the linkage set up but i dont like this eelco linkage at all. As Stromberg97 stated the brass extensions flex quiet a bit and i will change this over the winter. I rewired some more stuff and replaced the fuel line, cleaned the pick up and made a new gasket for it, cleaned the gas tank out was a little varnished up ;), I cleaned the outside to and painted it wth some flat black crinkle paint it looks good in the trunk and almost like I never touched it. Got the T-stat and gasket, I am waiting for the fuel block I may just make my own to get it running for now. Got the screen cut for air scoops. Ran the spark plug wires through the looms on V/C but driver side doesnt look like it will work, gonna have to make a new set or leave them out of the loom. I changed the bulbs to 12v and the new battery is in and starter works. I am getting damn close to fireing it up and cant wait!! Going to change the oil and pour some kerosene through it prettyy sludgy. I may just pull the pan IDK yet see what comes out of there but then will have to wait for a gasket. Milltown is tomorrow and i doubt it will be ready but i am trying just to get it fired up and to move for a couple hundred feet lol. I need to see if the motor and tranny have any problems or major leaks. So thats all for now i will get some pics up asap my damn puter wont upload from camera so i have to upload them to F/B then to my puter:( Who`s going to Milltown is there a meet and great?

Pulled the oil pan after i tried draining it nothing but sludge so pulled the pan and am Hot tanking it and gonna clean pick up. Added pics

i cant wait to see this at the airport next spring, or maybe sooner!! that olds rear end (should) be 5" same as my 58 olds with reverse thread on one side. any chevy truck, caddilac, full size older gm etc will fit.. ide have to assume that old paint is laquer, so some good compound, and a buffer will make it shine like new paint laquer always comes back!! good luck!!

I was over a friends yesterday he has a bead roller that puts the rib that is on all hose outlets so i put one on my bottom hose outlet i made. I get looking around he is a offy midget guy and he has a set of 16x8 SMALL WINDOW Halibrands yahooo, he wont part with them yet!! I think he will but he says those are going on the last midget he will build. He knows i want them i told him when hes ready let me know, He said you get first shot. Ok going to clean oil pan now it should be done cooking.

    Nice work.

(I'm voting for something to isolate the metal straps from the metal gas tank. Rubber hose?)

Took the Coupe out on its furst ride and show sunday @ Ty-Rods had a great time met alot of good people, still want to meet some more of you to. Jake ran good need to do a little rear suspension work its really rough the spring is bottomed against the bracket so its not doing its thing. I need to redo this its just to damn rough for the roads here i thought the body was gonna fly of the chassis . So i am going to do some research and figure out what to do. I stole these pics from 327-365 hp Scott hope you dont mind. Thats my ugly mug behind car... In second pic

that car is all types of perfect. Looks like the real deal (because it is). Great example of a real HOT ROD.

Oh and if you're looking for a better ride and you have tube shocks, take a look at el polacko's thread on Bilstein shocks they make for hot rods. Supposedly they are like night and day from cheapos. I'll be looking for a set once my wallet recoups from the shell shock of building my '35.
