Ther has been much talk of David Mann since his p***ing, but I had never known much about the guy, and in the process of reasearching him I came across one of his paintings that I think we all can relate to, and I can see why he is held in such high regard. kinda funny I think.
I never knew he p***ed. I just sold about 10 complete sets of Easyriders (70's) on EBAY. They went like hotcakes. now I kow why.
I never knew who he was or what he did until I seen the American Chopper episode this past saturday night when they built the bike for him. I have 2 prints of his, one is the ghost rider and the other shows a guy on his chopper sitting next to a 40? ford at a stop light in town. It's a shame he had to leave this earth so early,RIP. later plmczy

But it is a bummer we lost another icon.
What's so, so strange to me about the whole David Mann phenomenon (really talented artist) is that the guy wasn't into riding bikes...he was into painting them. A good portion of the biker lifestyle was created by someone who wasn't a biker. Weird.
No offense taken. I hope his wife got enough help to pay his bills, she looked to be a very strong woman with alot of close friends. later plmczy

I deserved that for ill communication. What I was trying to say was that I thought he started out painting biker lifestyle stuff, fell in love w/ the scene, then started riding them, no? Painter first, biker second. If I'm wrong, that's cool. Just what I heard from some "older" biker friends.
[ QUOTE ] All you ever wanted to know about David Mann. [/ QUOTE ] I was wrong sir. First painting was '63. Bought first Pan before that. **Note to self: Do not believe "older" friends just because they're "older**

I don't think he built the bikes that he rode, which might be where you got the idea he wasn't a biker. Geez, I wish I still had all my old Easyriders from the 70s. One Mann in particular I always liked had a chopped Indian 4 cylinder. While I think Big Paul is a loudmouth boffon on the show, he does seem to have a big heart sometimes. I wonder though if he gave her the bike too. It didn't really say. Like the Fire bike, the build kind of came off like they were giving it to the firemen but they didn't.
MAN ! Thanks for that Mann link , been a fan of his work from my (and his) first ER issue right through the last one when ER went yuppie, Have'nt looked at an issue since other than the news stand, hell of an artist, who still brings back a lifestlye I miss to this day every time I see one of his prints.his work immortalized a free lifestyle that will never be duplicated again. parts of it are still out there , but most of it is really gone w the bro's who lived it.RIP Dave and all my free ridin brothers,We'll ride again ,Dancer

I have this one up in my garage... I won it throwing darts at the Stanislaus County Fair in 1990... I can remember being drunk off my ***... and wasting about $25 trying to win SOMETHING at that damn dart game... I won, and my buddy Steve won... he picked up "Prime RIb Steak Girls" and I picked this one out... it's just a poster in a frame, but cool none the less... Sam.
I remember back in the late 60's(only bits and pieces ), David was doing biker posters for Ed Roth. There were like 4 in the set and the theme was outlaw bikers like the Satins Slaves and Hells Angels burning down towns and ****. Including TJ., Tecate Mexico. Man I thought they were the coolest posters I had ever seen, but I was probably trippin. I lived in the SFV in Resesa Calif. then, and I had all four hanging on the walls. Ed himself gave them to me after visiting his shop. When I moved, I just left them there taped to the walls. Sure would like to see those prints again. Anyone else remember them? R.I.P. Dave, you were the man. --------------------------------------------------------- Vagabonds CC Missouri
SamIyam, thats the one I was describing. When I seen that I thought that was the coolest pic. I got that when I was 15 or 16. Mine is the same way, small poster in a frame. later plmczy
I first saw his art in American Rodder back when I first started getting that mag (I guess) always liked seeing the art in there and was a little pissed when they stopped doing it, great link to the pics, he sure had a good eye for things, bikes, rods and ladies....
