Day 2…..discuss

  1. I know it’s a bit overused today…but these were the cars I remember as a kid…neighbor get a new or used “muscle car” within a week it had air shocks, L60’s, Cragars or Keystones, some thrush mufflers, some 6x9’s out back…

    Guilty.
Back in ‘71 I ordered a ‘71 Mercury Comet GT,
    ( see post <a href="https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/70s-style-street-machines.1316166/page-2#post-15236107">70's style street machines</a>)
I was told it would take 6-8 weeks to take delivery of the car. In the time I waited I assembled all the parts I would need to make the car my own. Money was a little tight because I planned to pay cash for the car so I limited the parts to wheels, rear spoiler, front spoiler, and a few other non performance parts. I planned to keep the drivetrain untouched because of cash and the fact it would void the warranty. ( that did not last long)
When the car arrived I picked it up and drove it into the garage, over the next week I installed all the parts , I did not show the car to friends or drive it for over a week after taking delivery.

I still have the wheels & tires from my WAY OT car stored away. They didn't last 24 hours.
It's the only new car I've ever bought. Everything else was a project and/or already modded.

My day 2 66 SS396 Chevelle, I had one in high school. I always wanted another but they always seemed too expensive. This one popped up on craigslist 10 years ago and is an Arizona car. It was priced too cheap and the guys phone was ringing off the hook while I was looking at it. It was an automatic car but I ripped that girls transmission out of there and made it a 4 speed like my old one. Makes me feel like a dumbass 17 year old kid every time I drive it

Honestly this is my favorite look for just about any muscle car. The stuff you'd see prowling the streets or at the drive-in draws my attention more than race cars. You never knew what it was packing. Could be a dressed up stocker, could be a fully built street sweeper, and that was all part of the game. If your car didn't worry your girlfriend's parents, you were doing it wrong.

This guy got the "day 2" look down-pat! Love the chrome ladder bars peaking out.....I ran those on my elcamino for a bit, but, they met their demise on a pot hole (common here in Mass).

My “day 2” on my 67 Mustang took about 6 months to implement. Medallion 90* sweep tach ( still have it, in my Lincoln now), RAC oil and water temp gauges, Sears AmFm 8 track in dash stereo ( cost me $100 in 1977!), a pair of 14 x8 ET gray torque thrusts on the rear with a pair of 14x6 American torque thrusts on front, shod on all 4 corners with Sears best XSS SuperWide bias ply tires, 70’s up front and 60’s out back. Smoke makers!

Back then, Sears was my Summit mail order! Spent several paychecks with them back then.

I guess we all have our opinions. I have no idea who came out with "Day two" but it's a lame definition.

It's stuff like this I liked being missing from the HAMB.
