We just got home and I've got to tell you we had a blast. Thanks very much to the Kontinentals for putting this on and for everyone else that had a hand in it. My only regret is I can't return tomorrow. I've been to six of the Day of the Drags and this one was the best one yet. I don't have a clue about what the car count was or anything like that but there were more spectators than I"ve ever seen there before. The atmosphere at that Drag Strip is always good but the presence of all of the people having a good time, totally laid back, car culture people just made the whole thing incredible. Okay, I just thought of a second regret about the event. I regret that I'm not 30 years younger and I can't camp there tonight and party with all of the car club members spending the night there. If you live in Texas and you're reading this you NEED to go to this event.
I had a great time! Huge crowd. Didnt break anything and got the white 54 chevy down to a 13.76! Poor Joe with the International is gonna need a new engine after spitting out #6 connecting rod.
Good to meet all you guys and the drive there was awesome. Had a blast at the strip got to sit down for a few hours watching fast cars and drinking a few beers inthe sun,and got there and back without a problem. Thanks again the caravan there was fun.
I'll be posting PLENTY of pics of the event probably tonight so check it out. If you find one of your car you like/want let me know and I'll see what I can do. I have already had a few requests and I'll be glad to accommodate anyone else. Damn, I can still smell the rubber!
Had great time at DotD. A Chamber of Commerce day in central Texas if there ever was one! Special thanks to Bob Owens of Owens Salvage for suggesting that I meet him out there. Thanks Bob, great part and really great afternoon! Here is a link the pics that I took this afternoon. That he**** was definitely over the top! http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/cc105/foghron62/Day at the drags/
I could do without the he****, late model oldsmobile, and the f1 car. The late models need to be out in the field. The rest was kick ***! Be back next year 4 sure! Had a blast!
If my wife hadn't already went to bed I would have a quick link up to my DOTD photos. I guess for now you'll just need to go to my album in my profile. Pretty cool shots hope you enjoy!
Was it just me, or did anyone else think the guy with the he**** looked like Sammy Hagar? I kind of wondered what a couple of those cars are doing there, too. As always, the drags were a blast! Dan Hay--I always try to find you when I see your car at an event. I really want to check out your coupe some time. I'll catch up with you one of these days... Slonaker
I saw you! Not too many bright yellow 37 coupes around...I shoulda hollered or something. Next time I will. I was parked up close to the staging lanes surrounded by a bunch of Yay-Hoos and there Model A's. (good people by the way)
Thanks! It was the first time out with the car. Had no idea what it would do. Its hard to get 205-75-15`s to hook up.
Yea, thats it, they all look the same! The 80 model prostreet corvette and the 280z (or what ever it was) on the trailer was acouple more. Don't get me wrong, it was awesome and I will be back again next year. It would have just been cooler with only 63 and older cars p*** the tech shack. There was alot of rides that ran some impressive times!
cool thing was, my wife pointed out your car, and she said was saying how clean it was. you were doing awesome, we watched you run down the track a couple times.
What a great day! Breakfast at Waffle House, caravan to Little River with a bunch of hotrods and friends, beautiful weather, a couple of p***es w/ the 54, hanging with the countless friends that we've made over the past couple of years....and ended at the Broken Spoke. Life is good. Ray has a bunch of pics posted here... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=409207&highlight=austin
The guy with the Top Sportsman Lumina is a good guy and a diehard drag racer. He's run at Lil River for over 20 years and needed to do some testing for an upcoming race and can trust the results from that track since he has tons of data from it. It seems reasonable to me to let him run considering the cir***stances.
Let me add my thanks to the Kontinentals and the Little Rive Staff for a well run, fun event. All those in attendance were great, laid back folks having a good time. My first time to ever drag race, about 45 years too late, but I loved it. It's pretty sure not my last! My Ol' 55 just couldn't hook up with street tires, but still way fun!!
I don't believe we could have had a better time! Everything was perfect. Thanks again to everyone involved.
I disagree. This was our weekend for Pre 64 cars. Nice guy, but it goes against what this event is about.
How about when they have the Big money 20k purse weekend....a couple ppl come out with their 64 or older Hot rods and make a few p***es? The difference would be???
