Technical Deal breakers - What makes you stop a purchase?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chevy57dude, Jun 11, 2023.

    • I have bought a few projects/ parts cars lately. No****le is not an issue, as long as the seller will sign a bill of sale with their information. If they won't do that, I won't buy.

I usually buy complete pieces of junk, so it's more the seller ( many of you have seem to share the same feeling). I have a neighbor, actually, we went to school together so I've known the guy for 60 years, I bought my '36 from him, helped him sell his '39 Dodge street rod when he was down and out and desperate, who has a pretty decent (off topic, but change the year and the model if it makes you upset) '76 Trans Am. It's a 455, 4 speed car, with a new set of seat covers and carpet in boxes, and while it surely needs lots of work, I've always wanted one.
I stopped at his place a couple years ago, during Covid, and as was my habit, I was wearing a mask in public, around others, indoors or out. He was outside, and his greeting, when I got out of my car was, "You can take off that*****ing mask!" Then regaled me with a host of internet conspiracy theories about covid, politics, big pharma, and the world in general. I was put off enough that I told him I'd come to make an offer on the thing, but since he'd insulted me and my intelligence with his ridiculous comments, I was no longer interested.

A seller misrepresentation of the vehicle and then acting like they did not know about obvious issues.
Also those sellers trying to pressure me, like if you don’t buy it now someone else is coming to look at it later that is real interested.

Seller's attitude, and of course what the item is. Then there's 'value'...Most have been covered in previous posts, but I can't give money to some idiot I don't trust.

  6. The biggest deal breaker for me is a car in really great shape.
If it’s not missing a ton of parts and the termites are still holding hands, I’m usually out.
