Thanks guys for your replies to my post about buying parts direct from US. I decided to go with Speedway Motors as suggested. I made initial enquiries by email and put in my order and CC details by fax. I was impressed with the quick reply emails and the parts arrived in a bit over a week. I even emailed them after I sent my order asking how the shipment was going and they replied the same day quoting a USPS tracking report saying my parcel had arrived in Australia already. I went in to Customs and paid the tax and duty yesterday and even considering shipping and tax I got the parts cheaper than here in Australia. One question though - The forged spindles have sticker "made in India" anyone have any experience with these? Steve
Sounds like those parts have been darn near around the world getting to you.... India to Nebraska and back to Australia... Shipping is where the money is/goes I guess!
I got some spring pivots that also said "made in India" I haven't installed them yet, but I was also shocked. You got a deal from Speedway including the shipping? They charged me $7 US to ship 1 lb of parts! I just bought from "Hot Rods by Michael" and RJay's http://www.srbymichael.com/ http://www.rjays.com/Product_Directory/hotrod-parts-dir-01.htm I think both had free shipping! (probably not to you though, but I'd ask.) Funny thing is, both places shipped parts directly from Pete & Jakes to me. Good luck!
Steve, I imported a bunch of Summit parts a few years back, and a lot of the chrome stuff advertised as 'Proudly made in USA' had little gold "Made in Taiwan" stickers inside
I can almost see Taiwan from here. Its depressing to think some of the stuff I've bought I've had to pay for it to go across the Pacific twice !

[/ QUOTE ] I wonder how much of the dwindling "precious" oil supply we are wasting doing that? Regardless of how cheap running on "crude" is...(or is it crud?)
I heard somewhere that Harley Davidson has all its chrome done in Taiwan, then posted back to the USA, as it is cheaper than getting it done stateside
