KIRK! ive got to say that is a great letter and it is true that the pen is mightier than the sword (this letter proves it)when they read it its gonna stay with them and when they least expect it it will pop back up from time to time and bite their ***es every time!!!!!i geuss you could say it very tastefully says **** you ***hole in the best way possible and thats ****in great ****!!!!!!!!!!!!hello santa maria i guess change is not always bad right!?besides FOR US NORCAL GUYS ALL IT MEANS IS WE GET TO DRIVE THE **** OUT OF OUR CARS ALITTLE BIT LONGER AND ISNT THAT THE REAL POINT ANYWAY!!!!!???????
Hmm, interesting a Paso Robles Concourse D' Elegance. They would probably get a semi decent turn out of entrants, but nowhere near the numbers that WCC brought into their show. I also believe that a Concourse type event would never bring nearly the number of weekend visitors (good, bad or otherwise) to spend their money in local shops/hotels like the WCC event did. And not to sound snobbish but as I live near Carmel & Pebble Beach & know what "cache" those places hold to the monied high rollers who come to the Concourse weekend, Paso ain't even close no matter what the city council members think. Paso is a nice town, but Pebble Beach or Amelia Island its not, not even close. I understand the city worries over crowds and the people who have started showing up to watch the show, but they can police their city and could have taken a stronger line with folks who were acting as idiots. Sad part is the little business' that will suffer the loss, I was never gouged in a restaurant in Paso and came to really like some the places I went to. Well Santa Maria here I come, hope Paso enjoys their wine......
i heard the rumor monday morning. i couldn't believe it. but it was from a pretty good source, it ****s. Paso will be missed, but now the question is....what will the memorial day weekend show be called? SANTA MARIA!!?? will their still be a cruise??? so many questions, and only 9 months to get either my bel air or '61 cad ready to take to the show!!!
hmmmm a burning bush and the end is near sounds biblical ...wine.... zealots..throwing out of the money changers saints preserve us....
I've been to Paso a few years, and never felt anything less than outright hostility by the locals. I never understood why people would talk about that place with adoration when they clearly seemed to be inconvenienced by our presence, and went out of their way to price gouge and make me feel unwelcome. F those guys. I'm glad the show moved. They got what they wanted, so be it.
If there are 800 cars at $60 a pop, thats about $48,000. (not including vendors) Thats alot of money but not for the amount of work involved putting the show on. If they limited it to 500 at $60, thats about $30,000. Only huge corporations and governments can run on negative income. tp Oh yeah, it seems bad business to kick out the "hoodlums" cause these are the guys that really pay. A speeding ticket is $300, a DUI is $2000, no front plate is $40, reckless driving is $150... (guesstimates of course!)
Rooms at the Paso Inn might be easier to come by now as well No point in posting it but I sent an email as well. My family and I planned on taking a trip in 08 but I guess not (to Paso anyways)
Just for the record it is a WOMAN (Sandra Kasky ****on)that chairs the Pebble Beach Concours. I too am glad I made the trip out this year. I liked the town of Paso and surrounding area. I had almost all of the wives of my buddies talked into coming out next year for the wineries. Oh well, Santa Maria sounds fun too. I too will write to express my disappointment.
As you all write your letters to the city of Paso Robles--- Keep in mind that someday the show just might return there! I imagine as they tally up the m***ive money loss after Memorial Weekend 08, they might just want to "re-negotiate" with Penny. If they change their terms, who knows? WCK might go back. All I'm saying is consider wording your letters with disappointment and frustration- Not bridge-burning "F*** YOU" letters. jay
The only thing that bothers me is the diverse crowd that went to Paso. It's not all "what people call" Rat Rods there, but everything in between. I like seeing everything in the Hot Rod/Custom spectrum. In the 90's Hot Rods and the young generation (I guess you could call it that) were the minorities. I think those numbers have changed since then. What I'm getting at, if Paso does have a show, will we not get the chance to see the debut of the 49 Barris Mercury Kustom and such? I'm talking about the historic and well-built Hot Rods and Customs that came to Paso. Has the line been drawn? It's hard to see what this outcome will bring. I'm thinking that allot of folks are just gonna wait and see before making the drive to Santa Maria.
my opinion is .........the die has been cast........a new place awaits us with open arms......why hope they change their mind at Paso?? Its the people that show up and the cars that make the whole thing worthwhile, not the place. kinda like getting a divorce and your sad untill you meet that blonde next door who wants to go back to a place that snubbed us??.............................not me
Why dont we still have a show and burn the city to the ground afterwords??? i'd even have to get something going for that!
Brie cheese you say......I'm so ****ing there. **** it, have fun in your backyard. I've never been to Paso, I guess it's too late now.
$70 for parking my car tailend first. That's no guesstimate!! Just because there's no show in the park doesn't mean we all couldn't just show up Memorial day weekend. Last time I checked this was still America and you could go and stay where ever you wanted. Let's not turn this into some cl*** war/red state -blue state nonsense. -stick
"Pimps on Broadway" The ship Santa Maria was nicknamed "Dirty Mary" by her crew. The Pinta was "Painted Lady" and the Nina was "The Girl."
It never ceases to amaze me at how little our elected officials really know about economic principals. At least three of our own city council members have not the first clue how wealth is developed. They think that whatever decisions are made by the city staff and council the whole world will line up just to kiss their ***es and money will flow as easily as water.
Well i guess i wont have to listen to the *****ey *** manager of motel 6 screw things up again!!!! lolol
HAHAHA..can't ya just see pebble beach type people paying 4-500 buck a weekend for a ****hole hotel in Paso.....Wifey poo would be not having that!
I bet you'll see price changes before next year when the motels figure out what's going on. Sorry sir, there's a new tax, your bill will be double...
This has been a great read, beginning with Kirk's letter. I'm having to think back in time a bit, but bear with me here. I've watched 30+ years of motorcycle week at the Weirs, which included the National Guard coming through when the trouble element rolled a Chev over and set it on fire on the main street. Paso always sounded like a great event, in a fine old-school town w/local eateries and such. Having put on "smaller" shows and events, there has to be a go-to group or person, and an agreement w/enforcement (Law) as to what is OK and what is not-Cool. Unlike a private party, if you can't say or do it without upsetting a family pushing a baby carriage through, maybe it's not wise! I.E. not recommended, 'cause it comes back to haunt the volunteers and everyone whose taken time to make it all happen. There may be other reasons not revealed to us, but the organizers would have town council based feedback with some measure of truth to it. Hopefully Santa Maria makes for a good location. If Paso wants to invite in the future, there needs to be a pow-wow, and an understanding of what is desired, to make it work. The limits sounded childish and offensive (no primer? Hello!) maybe there'll be a new slate of officials with a more promising outlook in '08 onward.
