Thanks all for your help. That's given me something to work with. The story from the Better Business Bureau sounds very familiar. Thanks again, guys.
I did a little research on the Speed33/Dearborn Deuce projects. John Hall/Shadow Rods and his main man Paul have stepped in to help Phil get the program back up and running. Phil has had a lot of problems which don't need batted around on this forum. They are helping to get his back orders caught up, bodies to customers with deposits etc. Shadow Rods is helping to produce the missing parts needed to complete bodies. Apparently he has a good inventory of parts minus a few pieces needed to complete a number of bodies? Also he has hired a couple assemblers to help with the bodies and has someone in the office to help with communications. Probably need a little compassion from the public while he attempts to get it together.
Unfortunately, in the world of litigation there are deadlines and the courts don't care much about compassion. If he had my good chunk of money for a body and wasn't responding for months, I'd be getting a lawyer. I'm all for giving someone a chance but when he's got your money, isn't responding, and the clock is ticking, don't wait to consult a lawyer. The longer you wait, the less there may be potential to recover.
Thanks for the update. I'm willing to cut some slack here, not a problem at all. I knew there would be a reason for delays but lack of comms would make anyone worry a little, especially when they're on the other side of the planet & options are limited. If anyone knows Phil personally, please ask him to send an email, text, carrier pigeon or whatever. Thanks again.
I don't think John Hall would be involved if he wasn't reasonably sure the business could be salvaged. John's got a good reputation the hot rod world.
So good that he has stepped up to help out. I have no skin in the game, but encouraging that someone would do that
You may be right (I hope you are), but the advice you're giving is gambling with someone else's money. I get that you're a fellow builder and want this to turn out for the best, but the facts are that others have already been screwed by the guy, and this happens a lot in the car community and doesn't always work out.
Yesterday when I talked to Paul at Shadow Rods about the down payment ($16,250) if I understood him right they were taking and holding the down payment until the body was ready for pickup? I may have misunderstood him? He was headed to Detroit today to pickup I think he said 2 bodies to have on display at the high roller show (Triple Crown) coming up.
