You know how you hear one of those legends or myths of the Ford in the barn or the little old lady in Pasadena who has the mint Chevy? This car is one of those legends in my area. I heard about it 7 years ago along these lines "Yeah there's a 59 Impala 2-door hardtop upside down in a ditch up in the hills somewhere." So yesterday I finally found it. Apparently it was hit and it rolled on the freeway in 1966. It ended up on it's roof and it's been like this since. It wasn't even flipped back over after it was moved. I sure hope they took the dead body out. It looks nasty on the front, but the back half and the driver's side are really straight. Nothing is missing except the 283 and little pieces. The PB, PS, grille guard, interior pieces and so on forth are all there. I got it for $300! It will live on in pieces and bits a**** me and all my friends cars... Travis
Man that's a cool story and it's on topic too. Are you going to flip it over or just take everything off of it as is?
That is a cool story, and kinda sad for the ole '59.. If you guy's end up fliping it right side up and take pics, post them ****ers up here. For some odd reason i love seeing 'forgotten treasures' like that. We used to go through the woods around here as kids looking for old field cars. Actually found a bunch of em too. Wish i took pics back then. Thanks for sharring. Tony...
Awesome story! How did you track down the owner? I've seen a lot of cool treasures sitting around from time to time in the middle of nowhere, but never tried to track down the owners. I figured it would be a needle in a haystack operation!
Neat story. How'd they get the 283 out without flippin' it over? maybe at the same time they pulled the carc*** out? Urban legends, ain't they cool?
We plan to flip it over and bring it to my home on June 12 (59-60 Chevy Day). I will definitely be taking pictures and saving carc***es for anybody who requests them (***uming I find any!). Some of those pieces... namely the center valance panel, the license plate stainless, and the top driver's door stainless will go on this. I just put the side trim back on yesterday (after seeing the flipped 59) and it looks strange seeing it with sidetrim on it... Travis
I knew a old fella that had a junkyard up on a hill in the woods. He had a 64 impala 4dr that was upside down on it's roof. It had rusted so bad that it caved in, so that the car was laying on the trunk and hood... The frame was starting to fall through what little was left of the floor too. Never seen one that rusted before...
FA... I have a thing for Portuguese gals! I should... I married one... But yeah those pix are nasty... especially the one with the truck. It's just that the 59 hits a little closer to home... Travis
hey run with it, atleast you won't have to chop it! hahaha!! you should make it a roller and put it on ebay listed as "needs work" probably get a few thousand because of the urban legend!
Funny you mention that, Jason... because I am cutting off the both rear 1/4's and rockers and saving them for my Impala! Travis
Parts is parts, and cheap parts are even nicer. I dragged this thing home for $75 a while bak and while it does look like a POS (it is!), there's inside windshield moldings and rear window regulators I need for my 57 Chevy, a back window and stainless for another 56 I probably am going to pick up, and the powerglide column and linkage that might or might not go into my delivery. The steering wheel is mint with no cracks in it and will go to Ebayas will a lot of the other odds and ends that are left. Chances are I'll end up with free parts out of this. I guess no matter how beat up or ugly it is, if there's stuff you can use, and it's cheap, go for it
