That is beautiful. I wish I could find something in that condition here in the rust belt.

I have a fuel leak question: We are trying to get my 1929 4 door runing for the first time since the early 1970's. We have had some sucess it ran just a little bit the other night. But a lot of gas leaks through the carb. I have adjust the needle all the way in . I know that there is a fuel shut off valve on the tank. The carb was rebuilt some time in the 1960's. We took it apart and put a rebuild kit in it even though it was very clean. Mainly for the new seal that did nto survive the dis***embly. Any input?

I haven't posted on the Banger thread before I hope this picture of my Bonneville Engine is a good start. First run after engine build, hope to have it installed in the Lakstere and ready to run V4F in 2012.

Merry Christmas to all & a great '2012'
Here's pictures of the 1st operation on my new B-55 rods, they still have to have the cap finished. They are made in 7.5 & 8.0 lengths with 1.875 rod brng. & 8.0 with 2.0 rod brng. for G28 engines or a welded up or billet crank. They will be thoroughly tested in 2012 at Bonneville, Willow springs dirt track & various hill-climbs. In the pictures if you look close you will see that the aluminum rod weighs 520 g's & the steel one 730. Similar aluminum rods are in Max's roadster for 3 years now, running on the hiway, antique nationals & hill climbs. Pat

You might have a float that doesn't float too.

All looking good Pat up to your usual high standard now all you have to do is start making five bearing crank shafts and girdles and we will have the complete package well done.

You said you based rods on chev 265 rod bearings, wrist pins, etc. Boy, it's been a lot of years and I remember some differences, but I can't remember what. I know I had my '55 265 out 4 times replacing broken pistons and it seems the rods were lighter? And I built a '57 265 because I liked the full pressure to the lifter galley. But, I don't remember what the differences were. ???

Any 2 inch rod bearing will work including the 250 six bearings. Because the Plymouth had a 3 3/4 bore and a 2 inch crank pin it seemed the best to use SBC parts and just have a rod made long enough so that the piston came to .000 at TDC. Since I had to make the Dodge rod bearings some size and had spare 2 inch (265 and other SBC) bearings I went with the same size.

Fuel leaks? That's just Model A Cologne No. 87 :D

My guess would be the needle & seat might be stuck, or the float level is too high, or the float is heavy/sank...

If the fuel valve is leaking you can dis***emble it and use a fine lapping compound to improve sealing, clean well, check/replace the stem seal, and use some fuel lube on re-***embly...

Post some pics when you can

I'm going to drive it like this for a while, add some bolt on power thanks to mr Winfeild, then up grade to a 5 speed and juice brakes. Leaving the outside alone.

The straight vertical portions of the runners are about 5.5 inches long. I'll post some pics when it gets installed.

This will use a updraft winfield carb.

On that third pic, could you turn that head upside down so we could see the 'inside' where you milled out everything? Please?

Thanks Pat. I really think that machine work is really neat. Do you use some special 'glue' to hold the two pieces together? And i was wondering that if you can mill a flathead like that in a cnc machine, why not go all out and make up an overhead valve setup or even a overhead cam setup? Couldn't you make the OHC head similar to the flathead and add bolt on cam towers/trays? The Cosworth BDA uses a bolt on cam tray. I'm sure there are other engines that use bolt on cam trays also. You just make it seem so easy when we look at your machine work. Thanks, Mike

In racing you pick a cl*** to run in, in this case we are trying to build a better flathead, time will tell. Long ago Racer Brown commented on 2 cam engines, "there have been far more successful pushrod engines than overhead cam!" In today's world full of computer simulations & flow benches it becomes a matter of when to say "enough". Virtually any design can be improved after the fact. As far as making it look easy, to ruff machine the 2 parts takes 1.5 mil lines of code & somebody has to ride herd on the computer. My 1st engine in my Avatar was a supercharged flathead, many time I was told " it would go faster with a Chevy ", but I was competing in a cl*** for flatheads and I enjoyed the thrill just as much as with later engines. The sound & feel of that flathead reaching 6,500 in 3rd gear of the Muncie is with me today, I didn't set a record but I did melt 4 pistons! Pat

End of year update on Dodge Bros. Bolted to trans and trans bolted to mount. Needs front mounts and several other things. But it is in the roadster
