A buddy of mine has been out there today (Thursday) since sun up, and has been calling me throughout the day telling me about some great deals he's found. Thats a way to make you not focus at work.... oh, and the HAMB, too.
It was pretty darned windy and dusty. I got some bloodshot eyes and its not from drinking for a change. Had a good time tho and sold quite a bit of insulation. Got to meet some fellow HAMBers to. It looked like about half of the vendors left already but were going back out and do a quick set up up front in some empty spaces and see what we can do by lunch.
We had 60 mph winds and less than 3000 ft. visibility.... it was nuts, I've never experienced that much wind and dust in my short life. I think my lungs are at 50% capacity right now, and there's dirt up my nose and in my ears. But worth the trip....I started collecting parts for my '32 project!
Yeah, I have been blowing out some pretty wicked boogers all day! Broke out the Q-Tips a minute ago and got scared.
the dust was horrible, and the sky turned an eeeeeeerrrrry color...all we bought was a bearclaw decklid latch and a set of collectors...
Didn't go. I've been in those west texas dustouts before. always go home wheezing for three days after.
When I left at 2:00 there were the big highway signs blown down on the road. The big 12x12 signs had snapped off. Got to the outskirts of decateur and there was a pretty good grass fire. Continued on down 287 and shingles were blown off of some new houses in Ennis. Pretty strong winds all the way back to conroe. I bought quite a bit and sold everything but one grill bar . Reminded me of west texas only no tumble weeds. TP
too windy, the dust was terrible. I felt like I was in the Sahara, I was wondering where the camels were. I'm still coughing up dirt..
I didn't even check the hamb before I left to go down to decature we were there on fri I got some good deals. Set of new bear claw latches for one of my projects, triumph frame w/ bolt on hardtail, a super nice 32 ford hood or its suppose to be if not its a 30-31 A hood either way who cares, some cool chrome valvecovers for the wifey's 48 that had the chevy script stamped in them, 32 grill shell thanks daddyo54, a fairly nice 34-35 chevy coupe dash for the new 32 ford project I got, a bunch of ugly plastic model A looking dashes that I don't know what I'm going to do with. Plus some other stuff I can't think of. I even sold some stuff. Sorry if I didn't catch up to some of you hambers I was kinda out of it a little /cause I didn't have much sleep. So might have met some of you and not known it I was with the road demons bunch so if I didn't recognize anyone I'm sorry. It was cool talking to Bass, crash and some of you others I did talk to. That wind was something else on sat. Its still blowing like that here in arkansas now that I made it home. Crazy daze....
I spent all day Friday. Didn't really find what I was looking for but met a couple of HAMBers I hadn't met before (Elrod, 55Merc). Found a really cool chrome Unity handheld spotlight $3, a really clean Holley 4brl for $2. I usually run across some unusual deal. On nearly the very back row, I came upon a trailer with some John Deere wheels and three big tubs that said FREE. Bunch of left over odds and ends from a 48 Dodge truck project. Ended up with a generator, volt reg, tank sending unit, 4 pistons and rods, and a handful of stuff. It wasn't until I had lugged the sucker most of the way to my car that it dawned on me it was only a 6 volt. Had fun though. Best part was the new friend I made. Older gentleman who was telling me about his 50 year collection of old Model A stuff he invited me to come see sometime near Ardmore, OK
I enjoyed my day down there on Friday. I only bought some u bolts and spring plates for my truck, but it was $5 well spent.
Free sandblasting! I did pick up some insulation from lobucrod. Oh, and my wife bought a big wire chicken.
Me and 67ImpWagon were headed home on Sat afternoon in the dust storm and passed a 197? Camaro project on a trailer. I look in my rear view mirror a couple miles later and see the hood tear off and fly 40' in the air and fly into the median. I guess that's what it lookd like when we lost the Studebaker trunk lid somewhere last year.
Good meeting ya Frank! We had a good time out on Friday. The score my buddy made was a cheap big logo 97. We were both running to the table when we spotted it. It was cool 'cause it had the Gasoline heater fittings still on it. heh. I got an F1 steering column, some column from some kind of Ford 2 ton truck for $10. has a cool 30's switched column drop on it. A cool 4 banger home made intake for a 97. 50s chrome cup holder that mounts under a dash. Aluminum timing cover for a late flathead, wide fork shift tower, 30s ford horn button, a NOS Ford truck pedal pad from 1946, NOS 32 Ford spring perch and a 31 roadster deluxe stanchion, drivers side. Anyone have the passenger?
Went fri and sat. both were great day. But sat. was just crazy, started out great in the morining. Then all hell broke loose and got a free facial thanks to 60-70 mph winds. But it's better than it was last year!
