I’m trying to make up my mind on the clutch for my ‘60 El Camino. It’ll have a 9.6:1 vortec headed 350 with a roller cam, nothing too wild, a M20 and a posi. I’ve got a Summit billet flywheel. It’ll be a low cruiser but I wanna make some noise and kill some tires once in a while too. I’m looking at either a McLeod Street Pro or a Super Street Pro 11”. As far as I can tell the PPs are the same between the two clutches. The difference is that the Street Pro disc is organic on both sides and the Super Street Pro is organic on one side and ceramic on the other. They list a Hp rating for each, and the Super Street pro is higher. I don’t mind some pedal pressure, but I don’t want grabby chattery SOB in traffic. I can tolerate a car that’s a little ornery in traffic, but I don’t want it to be downright uncivil. I want to drive this thing a lot. Anyone have experience with either clutch? Is the Super Street Pro too much? Am I worrying too much?
You're worrying too much. If the factory organic disc will hold the torque of a 348, it'll hold that small block. If you want a "Traditional" upgrade, go with a 3 finger B&B style pressure plate vs the diaphram, but that's not necessary anymore either.
I run a Hays combo organic and ceramic puck clutch disk in my 39. Its not grabby at all works great hold hard, no complaints at all. In fact, it will be what I look for in all clutches I put in my cars in the future.
Iv'e used both from Mcleod . I just put the super street pro in the Vette , so far it works great and pedal pressure isn't an issue.
I'd keep it all organic, I went from all organic to organic/ceramic and started breaking more stuff, to be fair it was a 4k RPM launch at the track
I’ll come right out and say it. Centerforce dual friction clutch kit. Like a sore Peter, you can’t beat it!
I run a Mcleod twin disc in my hotrod and it works great....Just some info on Kevlar linings.... I ran it once on my Dodge pickup and it wore the stock flywheel bad...I would use organic linings with stock flywheels.... Don't know how the wear would be on steel flywheels...Use to hear Centerforce clutches called "" Duel Fiction"""...
Thanks for the input. I kinda settled on McLeod because I had to narrow things down a bit and they seemed to have a good rep and are priced in my range. I bounced around a lot of forums and wasn’t finding any real bad reviews. It sounds like either one should be pretty good, but maybe more flywheel wear on the Super Street Pro. I know this forum loves Centerforce Dual Frictions…
