Hi, Can anyone help to decode my 1950 Ford deluxe cowl code? Cant seem to find any decoder, all of them is for VIN number, which already i have decoded. SP B 70A B 16K 8239A
IIRC, the codes read 70A being the body style, B is the production plant, 16 K is the build date, 8239 is the sequential production number, and A represents the number of the dealer order. Dealers got a discount for a full truck load of 4 cars (A-D) That type of coding went away about 1960. 16K would be a build date of 16 October. I think SP would be the paint and trim coding.
SP should be Saint Paul Plant, B is either the V8 designation or a color code I believe. 70A for 50 should be a Deluxe Tudor Sedan. Again, off on the B. 16k should be October 16th. I thought the last should be production run but the A at the end is throwing me off.
The only thing I might add with the above comment. I believe 52/53 they went to single digit plant code. 49-51 should use prefix two digit codes. And I might be mixing SP with SR, It should be either Saint Paul or Somerville.
Since you are in LTU, we can't be sure... But... SP Saint Paul B Sheridan Blue 70A Tudor Deluxe B Tan 16K October 16th
