I'm having trouble finding that perfect shade of red for my truck. I'm finical, really finical on shades and effect. Thus it usually takes me a lot of work to find the perfect one.

I was pretty sure I was going to paint it a kandy candy apple red over gold. I'm a blacksmith and this is a work truck, so it would creat a very nice effect. Unfortunately I am starting to think the truck wouldn't be used as much if it had a candy paint job, it's a lot harder to fix candy paint. (I'm painting it myself so no worries on cost really, I did my '67 Mustang with a candy)

So what I'm trying to find, which should be simple but doesn't seem to be, is a very rich, vibrant crimson red, with a lot of depth. Not burgundy, not scarlet, but crimson, what I consider pure red, just a deeper tone. It doesn't tint towards orange or towards violet, but has deep color. Thus why I was going to use a candy.

The closest color I've found is known as Anzahl Red, but that seems to be a color just in the Philippines and seems to vary depending on the year or make. This 1976 Ford truck is done in it with a wet look, aftermarket:

Thats pretty perfect to me as far as reds go. The problem is these two are also called Anzahl Red:

    This one is almost neon

This one is more of a burgundy

I know there is already a topic going the best cherry red, but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for over there and am manly hoping to find that exact shade of red on the '76. Problem is I can't find Anzahl Red at PPG or anywhere else, especially in a metallic or something. I'm not sure House of Kolor has what I'm looking for, I did my first truck in their blue blood but that color was more towards a bright red with a little orange than crimson when it cured for my tastes. I'd like my '56 to be a bit more blood colored with a lot more depth.

    Any help appreciated

  2. The f-150 has it dead on! Reminds me of my Sporster chopper that I owned back in '84..... I love RED that is right, but man the paint sure does cost more for that hue.

Look at the newer Chrysler products with their red. Haven't seen an internet pic to look right on the monitor yet, but see it in person, it's a nice color.

Thanks for the link, I'll give that a shot, looks like fun ^_^

Havi, that does really point out the fact of how hard it is to find a perfect shade using the internet! I usually have to google it to death to make sure its what I want and wasn't a trick from the camera, lighting and camera settings change a lot... not to mention my monitor.

There must be a 1000 shades of red, which makes it a difficult choice to make from the paint chips. I've picked colors from factory vehicles before, Chrysler had one called "Flame Red" about 20 years ago.

lol it took me FOUR years to find the perfect shade of blue for my Mustang. I wanted a very specific shade of cobalt, and I wanted it to do very specific things in the light. I'm far from painting my truck, it's why I've been looking for a color for over a year now anyways...
