Unfortunately, only the Uni-steer R&P will work on the 2WD S-10 because it is way to @#$%#@$%^#$ narrow for anything other than an Appleton or Sweet rack from the racing world.

I am keeping my eye out for a good deal on an Appleton or Sweet as I cant afford the Uni-Steer kit. I do have another idea that I am formulating for a rack based off an available rack with modifications for the 2WD S-10. Although I still need to get my trucks down to Florida (and find a place to work on them)

  2. that looks great although the fenders on the 37' don't have depth of the 40's fenders. if you lookat my album pic's they were taken when the cab was set on the rails at random and still needed to be moved back 2".:(

55dude ,I didnt find any pics either of older trucks.

Are you building a 37 or 38 ? in your last post you mentioned 37....maybe typo error?

Like 37slammed says.38 is "close to" 40 style.

Maybe you can post a pic of your project or at least front fender.
You metioned 2"...you may have to "raise the fender (compensate for curve)"to move back two inches. that means the ride height will look two inches higher . so that means changing spindles. Depends where you want it to sit,,,,just goes on and on:D

On page 6 theres an article about using explorer r&p...might be a little help to you.

I dont know how to post the kink .

    Jerry,

The explorer r&p still is too wide for a 2WD S-10. it fits on the 4x4, however there is no OEM automotive rack that I found that will work. However I have not ruled out the Chevette rack yet (as I cant find one). The Chevette (Opel Kadett) has one of the narrowest racks known. However bump steer may still be an issue, and the Chevette rack is a really light piece.

Still way to wide. The rack length from inner tie rod joint to inner tie rod joint needs to be about 16" - 18" max on a 2WD S-10. for reference, the Dakota rack and Explorer racks are about 26" If memory serves me right, the Chevette rack is just under 20".

The S-10 tie rods come to the center link and are only 3-4" apart on the inner tie-rod joint. This was done for bump-steer reasons on the S-10 by the factory.

Just starting '50 Pickup. Mine has a flatbed/stakeside bed. So wheelbase isn't so much of an issue.

Question is-I can get a 4door Blazer with 107" wheelbase cheap. Would I be crazy?

Is a Blazer frame that bad? Is it mostly a matter of stretching it a bit, and cutting off extra mounts? Or is there something else that's bad about using them?

The blazer wheelbase is too short and you would end up stretching it a minimum of 9 inches. If its a 4x4, the frame you will have other issues.

However, follow the link in my signature if you want a solution without all the work and you can use the Blazer for a donor.

I don't have rear fenders to have to center wheels within, so my thinking was I have a bit more leeway on wheelbase. I was wondering whether there were other obstacles.

I'll check out your link. Lots to think about!

The stock wheel base on an AD is 116", the 117.8" wheel base of a long bed standard cab S10 actually centers the rear axle within the wheel wells. The short bed S-10 frame can be used if you move the rear spring hangers 8" forward and modify the back of the frame. The Blazer frame has different frame rails and kickups that would have to be modified to fit properly.

But mine is a flatbed. No rear bed, no fenders in back, so no centering within wheelwells. The stock flatbed with wood stakesides is kinda different, so was planning on using that. Since no rear fenders, there isn't centering in back. I know there's a limit with increasing overhang, and at some point it would either look funky or handle funky with any loading, but the rear should be able to move front & back some without a reference to center it.

  13. The Blazer frame is an inch taller (6") than a PU at (5")
don't know if that makes any difference to you.

Hey man I am so glad to hear you not going the chevy route. I got nothing against any of the brand X cars but there seem to be very few all Mo Par street rods out there. I went to Street Rod Nationals in Louisville this year and only saw a few.

Im putting a 53 Chev 5 window on an s10 frame. Frame is a reg cab s10, long box.

For the guys that have done this did you just run the stock drive shaft?

My set up is a 327 chev small block roughly 375HP bolted to a 700 R4 trans out of a 91 IROC. the rear end is a blazer 4x4 rearend.

    Any help is appreciated.

The stock drive shaft is a two piece by the way.

Since the motor will need to move back a bit (4") , you need to shorten the driveshaft. With that stated, you could go with a 1-piece drive shaft

For a Big-Bolt maybe. I know that P30 axle swaps are common.

Im looking for some pics of body mounts that you guys have made.
Any one have any pictures or design templates they are willing to post up? How high off the frame to the bottom of the cab did you guys mount the cab? Solid mounts or rubber bushings between the cab and the mount?

I am up 2.5" with steel and another 1" with universal iso-mounts. Mounts can be gotten from McMaster Carr for cheep. The steel is 2 x 3 1/8" wall tubing with a 1/2" plate on top. There is another 1/8" spacer on the inside as the isomounts needed 3/4" steel in between the halves.

I will still have to make a small tunnel. I believe 5" above the frame is the shortest you can go without modifying the floor.

These are close to the mounts that I used. The ones I actually used were from Tech Products (www.novibes.com)

The ones I used ere the 60032's, however the ones from McMaster are very similar. There are about a dozen companies that make these such as Tech Products, Lord, Sunnex, Soundown, vulkan, etc. I used rebound washers top and bottom (large washers like fender washers, however 2.5" OD x .135" thick.)

    Hope this helps.

Thanks again Scott. Definitely gives me some ideas now.

Anyone else have some insight on how hig the cab should be mounted for clearances.
I am installing a 327 small block with a 700 R4 bolted to the back of it.
